OBITUARY H. MARCEL CARON1919-2010Surrounded by his loved ones, H. Marcel Caron, OC, FCA, has passed away March 1, 2010 at the age of ninety. Beloved husband of Madeleine Dussault for more than sixty years, he was the father of the late Pierre (Sylvie Levesque), Michele (Ted Romer), Marie (Richard Biron), Francois (Suzanne Coupal), and Robert (Marie-France Legault), the grandfather of Olivier, Sascha, Loic, Alexandre, Mathieu, Frederique and Juliane and the brother of the late Pauline, the late Rolande and Denyse. He was a member of the Steering Committee of Clarkson Gordon, Chartered Accountants, partner of Woods Gordon, management councellor during fifteen years, principal partner at Caron, Belanger, Ernst & Young during ten years and, at his retirement, consultant for Ernst & Young during fifteen years, president of the executive committee of La Presse ltd., Publications J.T.C. Inc. and Gesca Ltd. during ten years, and administrator of the Canada Deposit Insurance Corporation and of Gentec Inc. He was elected President of the Order of Chartered Accountants of Quebec, the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants and the Canadian Tax Foundation. He was founding president of the Opera du Quebec and of the Accounting Chair of the Ecole des Hautes Etudes Commerciales de Montreal. He was also professor at the Ecole, and member and President of the board of directors during a period of thirty years. He was President of the Student association of the University of Montreal, the Montreal Board of Trade, the Commerce magazine, the Laval-sur-le Lac Golf club, the Canada Committee (that became the Canadian Unity Council) and of the Advisory Committee of the Ministry of Revenue of the Province of Quebec. He was appointed Fellow of the Order of Chartered Accountants of Quebec and Ontario, received a Doctorate Honoris Causa of the University of Montreal, was nominated Officer of the Order of Canada, trustee of the Notre-Dame Basilica, fiduciary of the Notre-Dame-des-Neiges Cemetery during twenty-five years, Treasurer of the Cardinal Leger Foundation during ten years, Vice-president of the Clinical Research Institute of Montreal during fifteen years and finally, he was part of numerous Board of directors for corporations and community organizations. He was a memorable man who inspired respect, ethics, and integrity all his life.
