Marcel of Milestone, SK was taken from us suddenly on October 23, 2016 at the age of 52 years. He is survived by his soulmate/ spouse, Krista Bostock; his stepchildren, Darcy (Lindsey) Petford, Brandon (Rebecca) Petford, Michaela Petford and Kelsey Petford; his children Zachary, Brianna (Jeremy), Kailey (Knight); grandchildren Damian, Jacobe and Chloe; his mother Muriel Lafond; siblings Peter, Micheal, Joyce, Brenda, Sandra and Maureen as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Sergeant M.J. Lafond, CD proudly served his country for 13 years in the Canadian Armed Forces (January 1983 - February 1996) which included a five year posting in Germany with two UN peacekeeping tours in Bosnia and Somalia. Marcel discharged from the Armed Forces to pursue a career in the oil, gas and potash drilling as a MWD field supervisor and relief directional driller. He was very proud of having the lowest tool failure rate as he meticulously maintained his equipment to the point of perfection. Marcel took great pride in his work over his career and spent many years mentoring new MWD hands in the field. Marcel was very passionate about his seven children and their spouses. He talked about them every day and had their best interests in mind and was so proud of their accomplishments. He was very thoughtful, caring, loving and always interested in their day. He would answer their texts any time, even after working a night shift and was sleeping to provide fatherly advice and support. They all loved him dearly. Krista was the love of Marcel's life and he devoted all of his time to her. He was always taking on new projects in the garage, yard and completing renovation projects with Krista. It wasn't work to him. He made it his quality time to spend with her and enjoyed each moment. He loved going on road trips just to get away and enjoy life. Marcel touched many lives over his years and will be missed beyond what words can describe. He was taken from us way too soon but we will cherish all the wonderful memories of him. Please say a prayer for him as he watches over us from heaven. We love you dearly Marcel. As per his wishes, no funeral service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the PTSD Association of Canada.

Marcel. I remember the first time you came to our home. You were a true gentleman. I made you your favorite meal as Krista told me what you liked to eat. You were always the first one to do the dishes. After you met us you called us mom and dad. Bye bye dear son. Be happy. Sending much love till we meet again.

My uncle Marcel was definitely a role model when I was growing up. He got me into working out, eating right, and modeled a hard work ethic. One time he came home from the military and he was inside my house. When I opened the door, he grabbed me by the "scruff of my neck" and pulled me down the gravel driveway on my back. This was his way of showing me love and compassion, lol. I'm glad I saw him with Krista last year in Nanaimo. He will be deeply missed. I hope you are resting in peace uncle. Much love.

Marcel was the best mwd hand I have ever had to work with,we would always help him carry over his mwd tool then after he would go into his shack and grab us a drink and we would have a smoke outside with him and have a good laugh,he always brought goodies to the rig to which was good and bad at the same time because the everyone needed to lose weight so wasn't helping the diet to well lol,I always say remember the good times always and forever,he might be gone but never forgotten,rest easy my friend and I will see you again,my thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends

My family had the priviledge to get to know Marcel more this summer as our families came together for a beautiful summer wedding & a long weekend BBQ. Marcel was easy to like, held great values and conversation just flowed. Our thoughts continue to be with Krista and everyone close to him

Marcel was one of the true leaders of his generation, I always admired how his dominating presence would inspire teamwork even in the most demanding miserable situations. I recall watching him come out of the field exhausted and hurting from the rigours of deployment but yet that easy smile and soft spoken manner was always part of who he was, no matter how tough it got. A true gentleman soldier, leader of men, loving partner and fatherone of the best.

To family and friends of Marcel, please accept my sincere condolences. Marcel and I were young Corporals together in the 80s. I will always remember him as a great soldier and, more importantly, as a great friend who would go out of his way to help anyone in need. You have lost a son , a husband and a father.
