To Eva and the family, Marcel was such a good man! I am truly sorry to hear of his passing! I would never have been able to write the book on Terry Sawchuk without his help! It speaks volumes that when it came time to get the go-ahead from the Sawchuk family to do the book they said, "if Marcel trusts you, the Sawchuk family trusts you! He was definitely Terry's best friend on many levels.

I will always remember that Marcel did some book signings with me along with Leo Reise, but my fondest memory was when marcel was driving me around Windsor and Detroit, taking me to he and terry's old hang outs even if they were no longer there, and then... he took me to center ice at the Joe and we together stared up at Terry's #1 hanging from the rafters. It was an emotional moment for the both of us and one I am thankful for. Thanks you Marcel! Even if you wore #3, you too were No. 1! Merci Marcel!

I had the good fortune to officiate in the OHA when Marcel was coaching in Belle River.

I ran into he and his wife at the hospital prior to my recent surgery, introduced myself and we talked for quite awhile.

Of course he wouldn't remember me from the millions of those in his hockey life, but as I left the room, Marcel blocked my exit with his arm and raised his hand up to shake mine - how can you look at something like that and NOT recognize the class and integrity of a man like that - a simple, small gesture that nowadays is so sorely lacking and one that many should take a lesson from.

My condolences to the Pronovost family. Marcel was truly a fine and genuine person. He was always there to offer help and advice if asked; always there to offer friendship to a person in need; and always there with his kind and gentle humanity. He made the world a better place.

Pronovost, Gadsby, Barkley, Sawchuk. What a great defense that was for the Red Wings in the early 1960s. Throw in Howie Young and we had excitement galore at the Olympia. I took French in junior high school for the specific reason that I wanted to play defense next to Marcel and I figured it would be best if we spoke French on the ice. Along with Gump Worsley, they had the two best crew cuts in the National Hockey League. We lost Elmer Lach with his great slicked-back hairstyle a few weeks ago as well. They all looked so elegant back then. I have a picture of a young Marcel sipping coffee gingerly at a hockey rink (with fences, not glass, coming up out of the boards) with half his face swollen from stopping a puck or a stick. Sat next to him in the press box at hockey games a few times and he had a set of shoulders a mile wide. Any player who tried to get between Marcel and the boards was introduced to that fabulous checking ability of his. During our conversations he always stressed how important his great skating ability was to his success. Toronto fleeced Jack Adams out of his two best defencemen by trading for Red Kelly and Marcel Pronovost. It was no accident the Leafs won four Stanley Cups in the 1960s and the Wings went downhill after Marcel left. Marcel was one of my all-time favorites. I shall miss him.

As someone who grew up in the era before TV, I first listened to hockey on the radio, especially on Saturday nights . I also collected Bee Hive hockey pictures which hung above my bed . Among my heroes was a man named Marcel Pronovost of the Detroit Red Wings . Fast forward to recent years when I was fortunate enough to meet Mr. Pronovost while he shopped at Remark's Market on Howard Ave. . I decided to approach him and have an old fashioned visit . How happy was I to have the chance to meet such a wonderful man . He spoke as if we had been friends forever . He reminisced about days of old and how he acquired his uniform number 3 . Apparently it had to do with the berth # they occupied while riding on the train . Now as I read of his passing I do so with a heavy heart ,knowing how much he will be missed but also so happy to have had those few visits .He was a wonderful man and truly a legend .

My condolences to the Pronovost family . Coach Pronovost was not only a "true" hockey man , but a great mentor , and a great man . thanks for a lifetime of memories that you shared with us . I still can't believe that we rode the bus for a year with a hockey hall of famer and multiple Stanley Cup Champion . Your humbleness was your greatest virtue . Rest in Peace Coach
