Marcella "Honey" Dyer, Nurse and Mother, Passes Away at 81


Marcella Celeste O'Donnell Dyer, known to many as Honey, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2018, at Inova Fairfax Hospital, Falls Church, VA. She was 81.

Born to Anthony and Mary (Orlovsky) O'Donnell on August 2, 1936, Marcella grew up in Bayonne, NJ. There, she graduated from Holy Family Academy, and went on to receive her nursing degree from St. Peter's General Hospital School of Nursing, New Brunswick, NJ, in 1957. Her nursing career extended over 30 years.

Marcella married Joseph Varden Dyer in 1958, and they moved to the DC area where they had four children before divorcing in 1972. Marcella did not remarry. She remained in the DC area for the remainder of her life.

Marcella joins her daughter Kyle Singh who preceded her in death in 1998. She will be missed by her surviving children and their families: daughter Leigh Haines, son-in-law Allen, and grandchildren Allen Jr. and Michael; daughter Stephanie Brown, son-in-law Darius, and grandchildren Bailey and Griffin; and son Douglas, daughter-in-law Lynn, and grandson Kyle. Her much-loved cat Sasha has joined her new kitty siblings – Mac, Gabe, and Wallace – in the Haines household.

Funeral Home Services for Marcella are being provided by National Funeral Home of Falls Church, VA. She will be interred with her daughter Kyle in Oakwood Cemetery, Falls Church, VA.

The funeral mass will be held on Friday, March 2, 10am, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 830 23rd Street South, Arlington, VA. The interment will be held immediately after at Oakwood Cemetery, 401 North Roosevelt Street, Falls Church, VA.
