Marcella "Marcie" Chalek

Marcella "Marcie" (Shelman) Chalek, age 85, of Marblehead, died on Monday, December 3, 2012.
Born in Newton, she attended local schools and later attended Boston University Conservatory where she studied music composition. Marcella later taught piano on the North Shore. She was a member of the North Shore Chorus for over 25 years, and was a longtime patron of the Boston Symphony and numerous other musical performance venues.

Mrs. Chalek volunteered as a counselor at Marblehead Counseling Center for over 20 years. She loved her home of over 50 years on Atlantic Ave in Marblehead and enjoyed many summer afternoons surrounded by her family. Marcella was an enthusiastic and expert Scrabble player for over 50 years, challenging friends and staff alike at Bertram House where she resided for 6 years.

Marcella was the beloved wife of the late Albert S. Chalek. Devoted mother of Mark Chalek and his wife Jenny LaVigne of Brookline; Neal Chalek and his wife Stephanie Ancona of Portsmouth, NH and Glenn Chalek and his wife Wendy-Elizabeth of Marblehead. Loving sister of the late Harvey Shelman. Cherished grandmother of Peter & Myra LaVigne-Chalek, Samuel & Lucia Chalek. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 5th, 2012 at 12 Noon at Stanetsky-Hymanson Memorial Chapel, 10 Vinnin St, Salem. Interment will follow at Pride of Lynn Cemetery, Lynn. Friends and family are invited to gather at the home of Glenn and Wendy Chalek from 2-6PM.
