Marcia Jo Scollon of
Grand Rapids, MI, age 71, died peacefully on Easter Sunday, March 31, 2024, after a valiant battle with ALS. Born to Erwin and Mary Jane Rudolph, she grew up in Wyoming, MI and was a graduate of Rogers High School. She went on to obtain her Bachelors in Business Administration and Management from Western Michigan University. Marcia built an impressive 42 year career in banking beginning as an Assistant Manager and retiring as a Senior Vice President at PNC Bank in 2020. She excelled over the course of her career, collecting several recognitions and awards both in banking and the community, and found some of her greatest fulfillment in her career as a mentor to young professionals paving their careers in finance.
If you asked Marcia, however, her greatest accomplishment was her family. Marcia is survived by her best friend and beloved husband of 47 years, Robert Scollon, who served as her tireless caregiver following her diagnosis; her daughters Heather (Steve) Lentine and Sarah (Gustavo Quiroga) Scollon; her five grandchildren Harrison, Isabella, Natalie, Jack, and Leo; her sisters Betty (Gordon) Blackmer, Cynthia Kline, Valerie (Thomas) Garvelink, and Melinda (Bruce) Barnes. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, colleagues, and friends. Marcia was a devoted mother to Heather and Sarah. She was always their biggest cheerleader. As they grew up she was often seen in the stands cheering them on at their various sporting events or volunteering as cheer coach and librarian aide for their school. This devotion and pride were only amplified as she welcomed each of her grandchildren and took on her role of "Nama". She was filled with pride at the chance to share one of her daughter's recent accomplishments or a picture of her grandkids with any stranger who would listen. Just as she was always at her daughters' sporting and school events, she was there for her grandchildren's events. She found tremendous joy in creating memories for her family whether it be singing to the radio on car rides, shopping trips with her girls, planning the perfect Christmas, Disney vacations, the Fourth of July at the Lake, or a normal afternoon laughing hilariously at a famous Scollon family story. Marcia also shared a special bond with her sisters that can only be illustrated by the laughter that fills the room when they all come together. We will miss her smile, her laugh, her hugs, and most of all the way she loved us all so deeply.
