Marcia Vicencio Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 31, 2025.
Marcia Vicencio passed away peacefully on July 24, 2025, surrounded by love and cherished memories. Born in Gloversville, New York, on December 19, 1944, Marcia lived a life defined by compassion, curiosity, and deep connections with those around her.

Marcia began her professional life as a teacher in upstate New York, spending most of her career at Knox Junior High School in Johnstown, New York, where she was affectionately known as "Mrs. V." She was well loved and deeply respected by both her students and colleagues for her dedication, warmth, and sharp wit.

She later enjoyed a successful career in the leather industry before eventually relocating to Plattsburgh to be closer to her family, where she joined The Northeast Group. There, she served as Purchasing Agent and became a valued accounting mentor to many. Her guidance, patience, and experience made a lasting impact on generations of employees.

An avid traveler, Marcia explored the world with her children, grandchildren and great-granddaughter often in tow, creating unforgettable memories along the way. She nurtured friendships wherever she lived or visited, building lasting bonds through her warmth, humor, and love of life.

Marcia was known for her laughter, her sense of camaraderie, and her joy in a good game of bridge or mahjong. In her later years, she was buoyed by a vibrant circle of close friends-her "girl gang"-whose love and support brought her great happiness.

Marcia was predeceased by her parents, Rita Farrell Ermie, Orlando and Caroline Ermie; her brother, David Ermie; and her sister, Sheila Askew.

Marcia is survived by her loving children, Dennis and Betsy Vicencio, and their spouses, Lisa Vicencio and Jon Grald. She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Bridgid Vicencio Murnane, Evelyn Vicencio, Santana Vicencio LaBarre, and Joseph Vicencio, and a doting great-grandmother to Rayne Vicencio Murnane. She also leaves behind her beloved brother, James Ermie, his wife Sherry, and their children; her dear cousin John Farrell, his wife Christine, and their children Matt and Megg; and her nephews John (Janelle), Eric (Lisa), and David (Lisa) Askew and their families.

Marcia's circle of love extended to countless friends, many of whom guided and supported her through her final runway. Marcia's legacy lives on in the lives she touched, the laughter she shared, and the lessons she imparted. She will be deeply missed, eternally loved and remembered.

There will be a celebration of life on Saturday, August 9, 2025 at St. John's Episcopal Church, 1 N Market Street, Johnstown, New York 12095; services at 11am followed by a group gathering. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to VNA &Hospice of the Southwest Region, Rutland Vermont or Mountain Valley Hospice, Gloversville, New York.

I remember great times living next door watching movies and playing cards. Many blessings to Dennis and Betsy and all who knew Marcia.

Death is not an ending, but a transformation - a doorway through which the essence of who we are continues in new forms, unseen yet still connected. Like one candle lighting another, the flame changes place, but the light remains.

We were so blessed to get to know Marcia and do some traveling with her both local and cruises. She was really like a soul sister. We could laugh for hours and we usually did when we were together. She will be sorely missed by many many people and my life has been truly enriched.

Marcia was a treasured friend to many and will be dearly missed by all with whom she connected, influenced, shared her humor and insight and especially her ability to make everyone feel understood and loved.

I have countless memories of our time spent together playing Bridge, vacationing, having in-depth conversations, a few cocktails and sharing a good laugh. These past months I had the opportunity to have met her family who have been delightful and loving and dedicated caretakers.

All of these accolades are well deserved and a result of Marcia´s insightful loving nature. I will forever be grateful for having memories of our friendship and time spent together. Marcia is in our galaxy look at a star...she is in the light.

With love and gratitude,
Conniejo

I never met Marcia, but I know Betsy very well, along with Brigid, Santana, and Rayne. I always respected her immensely, as I know she was instrumental in forming the character, and the ability to love and show kindness she instilled in her family. Rest in peace Marcia. Job well done, and a life well lived.
