Marcia Walker Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jan. 14 to Jan. 15, 2008.
Marcia Jeanne Walker Passed peacefully surrounded by her family's love on January 4, 2008. She was born to James and Nancy Adeline Lake on August 24, 1931 in Spokane, WA. She married Randall (Randy) Walker in 1949 in Missoula, MT where they lived and raised their three children -- James (Adrian) of Seattle, WA, Randall, Jr. (Debbie) of Whitefish, MT and Marcia (Frank Hagel) of Edgewood, WA In 1973. After their children left home, she and Randy moved to Tacoma, WA where they began their life anew. Their time together was cut short by his death in 1974. Family meant more to her than anything and she loved her four grandsons dearly -- Cisco (Hannah) Walker of Prague, Czech Republic, Nathan Walker of Seattle, WA, Andrew Walker of Missoula, MT, and Dylan Walker of Seattle, WA. Marcia Jeanne is survived by her younger sister Elaine Stout of Spokane, WA and brothers James (Kathryn) Lake of Priest River, ID, Marvin (Janet) Lake of Kellogg, ID, Harvey (Boots) Lake of Dillon, MT, Lyle Lake of New Castle, WY, and Robin (Lori) Lake of Kingston, ID. Her older sister, Frances Johnson, preceded her in death. She held a special place in her heart for each of her nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her precious dog Joey and countless friends. Marcia Jeanne was respected and loved, had a way of making everyone feel important, and never lost her sense of humor or feisty spirit. She had great passion for family, friends, children, animals, books, nature, and ancient history. Her love of learning was endless. She held a bachelor's degree in Speech Pathology and Audiology from the University of Montana and a Master of Education degree. She was a gifted speech therapist and was inspired by the children she worked with in the Tacoma Public Schools from 1973 to 1996. Marcia Jeanne asked us to remember her with laughter and love and to celebrate her life. A memorial celebration will be held in Coeur d'Alene, ID in March, at the Lake Family Annual "Camp-Inn." In lieu of a service, her children ask that you honor her memory by spending time with a child, a loved one, or volunteering with a favorite charity. Memorial gifts may be made to Franciscan Foundation. http://www.fhs [email protected]/foundation/

Marcia, Randy, Jim, and families,
How very blessed you were to have such a wonderful mother. She loved you very much and was so proud of her children and grandchildren. We are so grateful to her for sharing her family with us and letting us share our family with her. Your mom loved our girls and they loved Grandma Marcia.

I was sorry to hear of Marcia's passing. I enjoyed working with her for many years with the Tacoma School District. I knew her from working with her in the speech and language therapist department. She was always friendly and a good listener. She very much enjoyed her work with students. My sympathy goes to her family.

Dear Walker family -

Our family's thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. Marcia was always "Mrs. Walker" to our family and she was, indeed, a sweet and caring lady.

We became acquainted with Marcia at NE Tacoma Elementary school in the late 1980's when she worked with our son. Mrs. Walker had a wonderful rapport with children - interested in what they were doing, tickled by the things they shared with her, but also dedicated to helping them find new patterns of speaking in a 'fun' way. She was a gifted educator to both children and their parents -- maintaining an interest in the kids she served long after they left her circle.

Always upbeat and cheerful, always supportive and encouraging, Marcia is remembered by our family with great fondness.
