I had Marcy as a german teacher from 1982-1984. I really liked her. I was thinking about her today an decided to see if she was on facebook. I was going to message her and reintroduce myself. When my search brought me to her obituary in web results, it sent "OH NO !!" tingles thruout my entire body. I had searched for her before to say hi, but I always found nothing. I never knew she got married so to me she will always be Fräulein Zachmeier.

Dear Robert, Katrina, Christiana and Victoria:
On behalf of the entire staff at Checkpoint Charlie Foundation in Berlin, Germany, we would like to express our heartfelt condolences!!! To us, Marcy represented whatever "Germanness" there was in the state of Minnesota - she was so dedicated, so visionary, so committed, so hard-working....and always up-beat, willing to try new ways, eager to be top-notch as well. She was fun to work with, because she was serious about her work, and highly competent! Marcy won the Friedrich Gerstaecker Travel Grant of Checkpoint Charlie Foundation in 2003 - and she came to Berlin a year later. Ever since, she has been a stronghold in the ever-changing world of school exchanges/language programs etc. Because of her, our STEP program brought many brilliant young German teachers to teach at TCGIS and keep a strong relationship with the "homeland". And it was her, making them feel AT HOME in Minnesota. Marcy, wherever you might be now, you will be sitting on a pink cloud - German style - way up, keeping an eye on all of us. And we certainly need you there as a Guardian Angel for the years to come. You will not be forgotten, neither in Berlin nor in the lives you've touched! Thank you for the honor and the privilege of your friendship. Du warst einmalig. In tiefer Trauer aus Berlin: Dr. Andrea Mehrländer, Ina Frost und Grit Orgis.

Marcy was the kind of teacher who only comes around once in a while. She was the person who introduced me to German and French, who enabled me to go to the University of Minnesota as a high school PSEO student, and someone who was a model teacher and advocate of students. Marcy was such an extraordinarily motivated and hard-working teacher who still inspires me to do my best.
Marcy was my favorite teacher in junior high and high school, she supported me all throughout my student years, and she was a wonderful, wonderful person. My thoughts go out to her family. She is sorely missed.

I remember Marcy's violet ear rings and necklace and her blue VW bug. She was a visionary who loved people and teaching and German. She was an extraordinary human being, brilliant, funny and warm. My sincere condolences to Tia, and Marcy's family. Pat McGurk
