Margaret was an inspiration for me. She was a great housemate; fun loving, kind, supportive, honest and a true friend. The Gilbert Street house was enriched by her laughter and mature wisdom. I am thankful to have been blessed with her friendship. My condolences to all whom she has left behind.

As her friend, and roommate from Berkeley, she was fun, playful, and was in my wedding. Miss her terribly, wish I could know more and am so sorry. Thanks Cathy and Family.

Margaret found beauty in all of us. We were in graduate school together, and I loved her so very much. My heart aches that I will not get to see her in the world, unexpectedly, and lament the time gone by and celebrate the times ahead. My heart aches for the family that mourns such a beautiful generous woman and leader. I am honored to have been a friend, all those crazy hard wonderful years ago. Margaret was a light in this world and she shined like the the sun on everyone she knew.

Dearest Margarita, I thought we were destined to live out our lives under one roof. I guess that will have to wait till I get to heaven. Margarita, you were always caring, true and honest; I loved our friendship. Say hi to Coco from Uncle Mario. If Bessie asks you if you are married, give her my name Panayiote. I am sending xoxoxoxo and xoxoxoxoxo and xoxoxoxoxo and xoxoxoxoxo and xoxoxoxoxox and xoxoxoxoxo to you skyward and all around. Love, Mario

My heart cries to hear the news of Margaret passing, my sincere condolences to her family and friends.
I met Margaret when she came to Aotearoa -New Zealand and stayed with my Uncle and Aunty and their family in Ohakune. (The Mareikura family) My uncle and aunty were part of a contingent that went to USA with a exhibition of Taonga Maori (Maori Art) Margaret was their host while they were there and she gave them an insight into Native American peoples that not many from outside of the tribes would ever see. They were eternally grateful to Margaret for the kindness and generosity she showed them so they were so happy to be able to offer her the same kindness when she came to Aotearoa Zealand. The next trip she made to our country was with the exhibition Shared Visions and I was lucky to have her stay at my home in Whanganui for part of that trip. My flatmates and I loved having her with us and much like the exhibition she brought to NZ we shared stories of our people from the past and noted similarities in our traditions and talked extensively about the differences. It was very much a learning/teaching time for us all. I am honored to have been able to call her my friend.
The time to take that journey to be with the old people my friend, e moe e oki!

Margaret will always remain with me as the one who would make me laugh and to stop taking life so serious. She was an inspiration to everyone who knew her. Thank you Margret for opening so many doors for us in the arts and museums. I will miss you truly. My condolences to her family for their loss.

Aunt Margie, where do I even begin? You are my favorite person, my Auntie, my Godmother, and in adulthood a treasured friend. When I was a child, I remember looking forward to the advent calenders you would get all of the kids, and how you would call and sing to us every birthday. When I was a teenager with green hair and piercings, you made sure to get me the black lipstick I liked. You loved and supported me as I was, in every shape and color I came in. You gave me a sense of belonging and trust where I'd so often felt otherness. Thank you for giving me an appreciation of art and culture. For sharing so many laughs. For your silliness. For your fiestiness. For being so uniquely you and all the joy and happiness you brought into our lives. You loved family, especially the kids and babies, and I know you have touched many lives with your friendship as well. We all love you and miss you very much.

Margaret came by my booth in Santa Fe about five years ago. I had a very large pot on my table with the price on it, but she didn´t think was adequate she said if that Pot is worth a penny is worth $9000 I was in shock I did not think anything I have ever made would sell for that price, but she thought it was worth it. She was always trying to help us in our careers. I met her in the early 90s, the art world was made better with her in it and I will miss her. Jane Osti
