Margaret Capanna Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 30, 2024.
Margaret passed quietly at home with her family by her side on November 24, 2024, and is now present before her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

She was born Margherita Rosa D'Arcangelo in Pittsburgh on November 1, 1927. She spent her early life on Boundary Street in Panther Hollow and in Oakland before she moved to California in 1940, after she was orphaned.

Margaret happily lived most of her life as a homemaker but worked as an operator for Bell Telephone in their Brownsville and Philadelphia offices in the 1950s. She was a member of East Pike Run Township High School Class of 1945, graduating third in her class. She enjoyed her family, friends, cooking, and baking. She liked to sew, crochet, and read, and was an avid Steelers, Penguins, and Pirates fan. Her volunteerism extended throughout the community over the years and included various citizens' committees, the Brownsville Soup Kitchen, and cooking dinners for the Rotary Club as a member of the United Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of California. She also headed her church's annual Mardi Gras spaghetti dinner fundraiser through the 1970s, proudly making her family's sauce to feed the crowd.

Most of all, Margaret was a wonderful mom. She was an active and eager participant in her children's activities, even long after they became adults.

"Beginning on Boundary," a book about the search for her family, was published in February 2018. It brought her much joy and gave her much needed closure.

In addition to her parents, Giuseppe and Rosa D'Aloisio D'Arcangelo, she was predeceased by her beloved husband, Norman; an infant brother; her stepfather, Antonio D'Amico; her sister, Sara Rose (Rose D'Amico) Votodian; and many other relatives and friends whom she missed dearly. We rejoice that she is now reunited with them.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Rosemary, of Coal Center, with whom she made her home; her son, Peter J. (Tammy) of Coal Center; a special cousin, Dana DeAngelo of West Brownsville; a special niece, Patty Revak of Munhall; her cousins from Quadri, Italy, Raffaele D'Amico and Vincenzo D'Aloisio; and many treasured nieces, nephews, and cousins in America, along with her Quadresi cugini scattered throughout the world.

Margaret's family extends their deepest gratitude to the countless friends who assisted us with caring for her over the years.

A public memorial service will take place on Sunday, January 19 at 2PM at the United Christian Church, Malden Crossroads, Coal Center, with co-officiants Pastors Amory Merriman and Tim Burgan. In lieu of flowers, donations to the United Christian Church are appreciated.
