Margaret Chin Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 4, 2025.
Palm Desert - With deep love and gratitude for her extraordinary life, we announce the passing of Margaret "Margo" Chin, a devoted mother, wife, sister, grandmother, mother-in-law, godmother, and treasured friend. She left this world peacefully on November 17, 2025, leaving behind a legacy defined by compassion, curiosity, faith, and unwavering love for her family.

Born January 9, 1932 and raised in Chicago Park, California, she grew up in a lively household with her beloved siblings-Ted, Trudy, Ann, and Elaine. Those early years shaped her strong sense of family, resilience, and the sharp wit that remained with her throughout her life.

A lifelong learner with a brilliant and articulate mind, she pursued higher education with determination and pride. She studied at Stanford University and Yale University, ultimately becoming a registered nurse-a calling she embraced for decades. Her passion for nursing took her around the world, including memorable years in Copenhagen, Denmark, where she worked as a visiting nurse, fell in love with long bike rides through the city and developed a lifelong passion for Danish furniture design and architecture.

Her career included time as a school nurse, a role she cherished for the opportunity to care for children and support their growth. Remarkably, she maintained her nursing license until the very end of her life-a testament to her commitment to service, professionalism, and continuous learning.

She was sharp, thoughtful, and endlessly curious, with an enduring passion for education, history, and civic engagement. She was deeply devoted to her faith and her church community, often spending her time in Bible study, prayer groups, and brain games that kept her brilliant mind active. She believed in staying engaged with the world and never stopped seeking knowledge.

Above all else, she loved her family-deeply, fiercely, and unconditionally. She was the heart of her home and a guiding presence to all who knew her. Her love, wisdom, and strength will continue to shape the lives of her family for generations to come.

Margo was predeceased by her husband of 36 years, Woodrow Chin, her parents Edward and Gertrude Blum, her brother Theodore "Ted" Blum and her sisters Annette "Ann" Blum and Gertrude "Trudy" Goeppinger. She is survived by her sister Elaine Ladas (Phil) of McMinnville, Oregon, her daughter Lara Rockman (Jon) of New Canaan, CT and her grandson Thomas Rockman (Tom) of New Canaan, CT.

Interment will be on December 9, 2025, at Riverside National Cemetery, with Forest Lawn Mortuary in charge of the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to LCMS Foundation, 1333 South Kirkwood Rd. St. Louis, MO 63122-7295. For further information, please visit www.lcmsfoundation.org.

Margo and I met when she was the nurse and I one of the teachers at the school for handicapped children in Oakland. Many children in our care had medical issues that needed treatment by a nurse. She was always so professional in every way and I learned so much from her.
Though we changed assessments we kept in touch. One memorable afternoon from the lawn of her beautiful home in Piedmont, my husband and I watched an outdoor opera production of Romeo and Juliet with Margo and her husband Woody!
After they moved to Palm Desert I, now a widow visited them. Then, as two widows we visited Mt. San Jacinto, congratulated each other upon arriving at the top! A most memorable adventure!
Goodbye, dear friend. I miss you, our many conversations about life, your Faith. Rest in peace.
