MARGARET FITZGERALD Obituary
Age 88, of Crafton, formerly Ambridge. Peacefully on Wednesday, August 27, 2014. Daughter of the late Thomas and Malvina (Bearer) Fitzgerald; beloved sister of Ann Rose of California and Dorothy Hoover of Ambridge, and the late Mary Turner, Catherine Stayduhar, Jack and Thomas Fitzgerald; also survived by nieces and nephews. Peg was a graduate of Duquesne University, St. John's University Law School. She also was a US Navy veteran Jag Lawyer with over 17 years of active service. After the military, Peg entered into religious life with the Order of Sisters of Our Lady of Charity. While in the convent, she became a registered nurse and was the former principal of St. Columbkille Catholic School. After her time in the Order, she worked as an RN at the Allegheny County Jail until her retirement. Friends received 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the SCHEPNER - McDERMOTT FUNERAL HOME, INC., 165 Noble Ave., Crafton. Mass of Christian Burial 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Philip Catholic Church. Memorials may be made in Margaret's name to St. Philip School, 50 W. Crafton Ave., Pgh., PA 15205. A special thank you to the Baptist Homes and Family Hospice of Mt. Lebanon. Burial will be with full military honors.

Sympathy & kindest regards to the Fitzgerald family & friends wherever they may be. God bless 1 & all. Take care. The old AC jail brings back memories of Audrey Kearney, Judges Henry R. Smith, Jr., Loran Lewis, Robert E. Dauer, Samuel Strauss & Joseph Ridge among many others.

Aunt Peggy was not only my aunt but also my godmother. She took that duty seriously and always made time to provide much needed advice in my youth and young adulthood. I admired her drive and lifelong dedication to helping others. She had a great sense of humor and a healthy skepticism of authority. Thank you to all of those who cared for her in her final days.

Peggy Fitz was my college roommate and I loved her. My whole family loved Peg. She will be sadly missed and long remembered. Our prayers are with her.

I worked with Sister "Peg" at the Allegheny County Jail in the 80's. She was a kind and good person. Rest In Peace.
