Margaret Fitzsimmons Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 31, 2023.
Margaret M. (Sullivan) Fitzsimmons of North Providence, RI, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2023, while at home surrounded by family.

Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Jeremiah J. and Mary G. (Cronin) Sullivan, and was the only sister of the late Jeremiah, Joseph, James, and Frederick Sullivan. She was the widow of the late William J. Fitzsimmons with whom she had three daughters: (the late) Kerry A. Brusini of North Providence, RI, Margaret M. (and Thomas) Ackerson of NH, and Kathleen F. (and Edward) Lesuer of Cranston, RI. She was the proud grandmother of five grandchildren: Kristen (and Kyle) Nelson of VA, Katherine (and Joseph) Daniels of NH, Haley (and Michael) Finnegan of NH, Brett Lesuer of RI, and Nicholas Brusini of RI, as well as six great-grandchildren.

Known as Peggy or Sully to her friends and family, she was a life-long resident of Rhode Island. She worked for many years at Sears coordinating fashion shows in RI and in the Boston area, and later she worked for the State of RI at the Heritage Commission until retirement.

Peggy held her friends near and dear and valued her life-long bond with Jeannie Almonte of North Kingstown, RI. She often spoke of her fond memories that included beach trips to Matunuck with her daughters and many nieces and nephews all piled into her big maroon station wagon, and throughout the years, continued socializing with these same family members as adults at holiday gatherings and at the beach.

A mass will be held on Sunday, November 12, at 10 am at St. Joseph's Church, 92 Hope Street in Providence, RI, followed by a gathering of family and friends to share stories and celebrate her life.
