Margaret Halferty Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 28, 2011.
Margaret Josephine Halferty of North Little Rock died Thursday, July 28, 2011. She was born August 27, 1925 in Bloomfield, Nebraska. She was a high school graduate of St. Ludger’s Academy in Creighton, Nebraska. This Catholic school was founded in the 1800’s. “Marge, as she was lovingly called, worked in Omaha, Nebraska and later in Kansas City, Missouri during World War II and was employed by civil service in communications. It was during this “War time period that she met and married Donald L. Halferty, Sr. They were married on New Year’s Eve, 1948, and were married for 57 years before his death in 2005. Marge’s late husband, Donald Louis, as well as her three sons worked for Union Pacific Railroad. This demanding lifestyle was a source of pride for her and she never complained about the frequent moves, missed holidays, or long hours. It was said that she was the railroads’ biggest fan. Marge always enjoyed life to the fullest. If the boys were playing ball, she was in the bleachers. Her voice was unmistakable and her laughter was contagious. Her family was the source of her joy. Even though she was the life of the party, her devotion to her family, especially to her daughter Kathleen was evident. Marge was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Lucille Slack and Elizabeth Wietlake, husband, Donald Louis Halferty, and daughter, Kathleen Halferty. She is survived by sister Kathleen DePetro, of Omaha, Nebraska; son, Donald and wife, Faye, and their son, D.L. “Trey Halferty, III of Cabot; son, Robert and wife, JoBeth, his daughters, Victoria Walker, her husband, Steven, and Megan Halferty, and her sons, Jeff Holsted, his wife Crystal, and Adam Holsted, and his wife, Crystal; and son, Mike and wife Renata, and their daughter, Casey Carter; and her eight great-grandchildren Emily and Carley Walker, Kayden Halferty, Jaci, Lauren Jacob, Kobie, and Dylan Holsted. Special appreciation to Marge’s caregivers: Angela Lowerre, Geri Babin, Betty Heird, Mary Hedgecock, and Cindy Gwin. Their devoted help and assistance enabled our mother to stay home and enjoy life to the very end. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to St. Anne’s Church, 6150 Remount Rd, North Little Rock, AR 72118; Lakewood Methodist Church, 1922 Topf Rd, North Little Rock, 72116; St. Luke’s Respite Care Center, 4106 John F. Kennedy Blvd, North Little Rock, AR 72116; or Hospice Home Care, 2200 South Bowman, Little Rock, AR, 72211. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in North Little Rock with Father Tom Stehlik celebrant. Rosary will be held at 6:00 p.m. with visitation following from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m., Sunday at North Little Rock Funeral Home, 1921 Main St., North Little Rock, AR, 501-758-1170.
