She loved reading and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren
CRYSTAL LAKE - Margaret K. Hawthorne nee Krahenbuhl, 81, a 52-year resident of Crystal Lake and Woodstock, died Friday, July 6, 2007, at her home in Crystal Lake.
She was born Feb. 2, 1926, in Stephenson County, to Christian and Rosa Krahenbuhl. She married Duane Hawthorne on Aug. 26, 1945, in Monroe, Wis.
She graduated from Monroe High School in Monroe, Wis., in 1944. She was a 23-year employee of Hills-McCanna in Carpentersville.
She loved reading, traveling, playing Scrabble, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a die-hard Cubs fan.
Survivors include her children, Richard (Penny) Hawthorne of Waukesha, Wis., David (Kathy) Hawthorne of Breese and Barbara Hawthorne of Battle Creek, Mich.; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister and a brother, Heddy (Harold) Shager of Monroe and Karl (Luann) Krahenbuhl of Monroe; a sister-in-law, Dorothy (Argene) Van Matre of Rockford; a brother-in-law, William (Clara) Hawthorne of Albany, Wis.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Duane.
Services and interment are private.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Monarch Hospice, 5435 Bull Valley Road, Suite 304, McHenry, IL 60050.
Arrangements were made by Windridge Funeral Home in Cary.
