Margaret Hicks Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 15, 2017.
Margret Faye Hicks passed away Nov 15th 2017. She has left behind her wedded husband Robert Hicks of nearly 50 years. She has also left behind her daughter Anna Hicks Kleinschmidt and her husband Robert Kleinschmidt, her son John Hicks and his wife Cara Hicks all from Greenwood. She has been very proud of her grandchildren Levi & Sam Hicks Tyler, Hope & Jacob Kleinschmidt of Greenwood Melissa Jones of Fort Worth Mary Powers of Foulke, Amy Burlington & Brilea Hatfield of Fort Smith. She is also survived by her great grandchildren Angel Price J.D., J.R., Susanna & Robert Powers of Foulke Tre Vann & Sean Jones of Fort Worth Eliniah, Peyton, and Paxton Bullington of Fort Smith. She left behind her brother John Mullen and family of Louisiana. She was preceded in death by her parents Faye and J.D. Mullen both of Fort Smith. All of you have made her very proud. She tried to always have your pictures with her where ever she went to show everyone her beautiful family.

She has lived a full life and loved to read. She turned that into a career first working in a small school library and teaching special needs students at a school near our home, and later working for the library at Westark community college that became the University of Arkansas in Fort Smith. She also loved to craft but really loved to crochet. She would always try to crochet everyone that was about to have a baby a little blanket special for them. She would also crochet hats for the neonatal care unit for the newborns there to donate to the newborns.

She always had a story to tell about her family history and was interested in history In general. She passed that love on to her children. She could be quirky at times and before there was a problem with texting and driving I can remember Mom driving down the road with a romance novel firmly held on the steering wheel, how we survived childhood, I don't have a clue. We never went to daycare, we were raised in that library, I find comfort surrounded by books. When I was a child and would hide in the stacks and read about anything that peeked my interest, I could get lost for hours. My mom gave me that gift. She is going to be missed.

Memorial gifts may be donated in her honor to the Sebastian County Library P.O. Box 400, Greenwood AR 72936

Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 20 at Greenwood First Baptist Church with interment at U.S. National Cemetery under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood. Sorry to hear about your families loss. We will keep you in our prayers. I knew the Hicks from church at Phoenix Village Baptist in Fort Smith many years ago. I have often wondered what they were up to and how they were doing. God bless

Sweet Aunt Margie. I cannot describe the many ways you shall be missed by me. I could write my own book and name it "My Margie Memories". You knew things that I needed long before I could verbally say it. I still giggle when I think about being new to Ft. Smith and all excited about my new stuff from " FROGS" lol. I could go on and on with great stories and memories. Just know that this earth is not going to be the same without you here.

My love and prayers to you Uncle Robert, Anna and John.

I met Margie and Chief when they first moved to Greenwood. Grandson Tyler was living with them while his Mom Anna was serving our country. We became fast friends and Tyler and my kids spent many hours together.
Margie had such a gift of gab, which she kept me laughing all the time of stories of her family and growing up.
I will miss our long conversations and will always admire her strength through her health issues. May God be with all of the family and prayers be with you in the days to come.
Love to all, Sheryl Studyvin and Family

I worked with Margie at the Boreham Library. The one thing I remember about her is that she loved her family and she had a great laugh!
