Margaret Larson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 23, 2024.
Margaret Joan Larson (née Towers), affectionately known as Joan, passed away peacefully on November 17, 2024, in Rancho Cordova, California, at the age of 100. Born in Preston, England, she came to America as a war bride. Joan had a fulfilling life marked by a career in accounting, working at Weinstock's and later at Macy's, where she was highly respected by her colleagues. In addition, Joan worked at Conners Calculating throughout her career in a part time capacity.

Joan was deeply committed to her faith, actively participating in the congregations of Saint Ignatius Catholic Church and later Saint John Vianney Catholic Church. Her dedication to her faith was paralleled by her love for her family, gardening, traveling, daily walks with Arden Park friends and her extensive philanthropic efforts, which brought joy and aid to many.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Keith Larson; her parents, Elizabeth Ryan Towers and Richard Towers; and her brothers, Thomas and James Vincent Towers. Joan's legacy continues through her children, Margaret Larson (Rob), Barbara Larson, and Richard Larson (Sue); and her granddaughter, Kathryne Larson. She is also survived by sisters-in-law Betty Ross & Isabel Larson and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews across the UK, New Zealand, Canada, and the United States.

Services to honor Joan's life will be held at the Mausoleum at Calvary Cemetery & Funeral Center on Friday November 29th, located at 7101 Verner Ave., Citrus Heights, CA 95621. Viewing will be at 10am, Catholic Mass at 11am, Interment at 12pm. There will be a reception immediately following. The Calvary Cemetery & Funeral Center will also be assisting the family during this time.

Joan's life was a testament to her strength, compassion, and devotion to her family and community, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew her.

Joan always welcomed me along with Keith and all the family whenever I visited Sacramento. I made several journeys to Las Pesas Way back in the 1970s when I played Soccer there and later with my family on holidays.
Joan was a kind and caring person and always helped me along the way. She will be greatly missed by all of us.

I fondly remember Joan & Keith's visit to Canada ( with brother Tom Towers from Preston) back in the 80s. They came to visit with my Dad, William ( their cousin) . I've enjoyed keeping in touch with Joan through cards and letters over the years. I'm deeply grateful for her remarkable life and legacy. Sending lots of love and deepest sympathies to cousins Barbara, Margaret, Richard and their families.

Auntie Joan (Margaret) was so brave going off to California with new husband Keith - so very far away in those days from her UK family, Only to do a return visit 16 years later to see her mother & other family, with our cousins Margaret, Barbara & Richard. Many happy memories of that trip to England and our trip to California in 1984. Our mother Marie who was Joan's best friend/sister-in-law would regularly write the letters to Joan on behalf of Joan's mother. It has been a great comfort to us in England that Joan was with us for so long & that special contact to our dad. Amazing. Rest in Peace Joan. CHRISTINE, NEIL & FAMILY XXXX
