Margaret Meadows Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 10, 2025.
Margaret "Ann" (Muse) Meadows, 74, passed away on January 15, 2025, in San Antonio, Texas.

Born on July 11, 1950, in Lakewood, Ohio, Ann dedicated her life to education and service. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from Southwest Texas State University on August 14, 1971, followed by a Master of Education from the same institution on August 16, 1975. Her passion for teaching led her to a distinguished career spanning over three decades. She began as a teacher at San Antonio ISD in 1971 before joining Judson ISD in 1972. In Judson ISD, she taught at Hopkins Elementary, Olympia Elementary and Woodlake Middle School until her retirement in 2002. Her dedication to her students was recognized when she was named Teacher of the Year in Judson ISD in May of 1982.

Beyond the classroom, Ann was deeply committed to her community. She had a profound love for animals and spent time volunteering at both the Universal City and Live Oak animal shelters. She was the secretary for the Universal City Homes for the Homeless non-profit humane organization. She also gave back through Meals on Wheels and served faithfully at Northern Hills United Methodist Church as an usher and communion steward. Ann was also a member of Randolph Area Retired Educators (RARE), where she co-chaired the annual book donation drive, and was also an active member of Al-Anon.

Ann is survived by her husband of 54 years, Leaird Preston Meadows III; her son, William Leaird Meadows, and his wife Lauren Michael (Winck) Meadows; her grandchildren, Elliot Leaird Meadows and Vivianne Claire Meadows; and her daughter, Misty Ocoee Meadows and her partner Jon Christopher Goodwin. She is also survived by her sisters, Carol Lynn Muse Unangst and her husband William Jay Unangst; Nina Jo Muse and her husband David Cox Needham; as well as their children Collin Natoni Muse Needham and Leah Jolene Needham Muse. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Ralph Muse and Margaret Emily (Gunter) Muse.

A memorial service will be held on February 15, 2025, at Northern Hills United Methodist Church, located at 3703 N. Loop 1604 E, San Antonio, Texas, 78247. The service will begin at 11:00 AM and conclude at 12:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made by donation to the Universal City Homes for the Homeless Fund. The Homes for the Homeless Fund pays for the spay/neuter and veterinary expenses for every animal adopted from the shelter.

Ann's legacy as a loving wife, mother, devoted educator, and compassionate advocate for animals will be cherished by all who knew her.

Mrs. Meadows was my elementary math teacher 30 years ago. I remember her kindness and compassion, I was terrible at math and she made it seem easy. She had such passion for teaching young minds. Rest in peace.

Ann and Leaird are my cousins. We got to be together later in life through
RVing. Ann's love of animals was impressive to me. We were not seeing
each other during all her teaching years. That is interesting to me because
my husband and I were teachers also. Leaird's Dad was my husband's
principal and possibly his coach at one time in Monahans. Leaird's mom was my cousin. Ann will be greatly missed. My prayers and thoughts go out
to the family. Shirley Boggus

I met Mrs. Meadows many, many years ago when I was in high school. Mr. Meadows was my favorite teacher & I babysat for them a few times. May the Lord wrap his comforting arms around her family and friends and bring them peace.

In loving memory of a wonderful, beautiful sister. I miss you so much already! Ann was the "glue" in my life that always kept me connected to my family even though I was rarely physically near. She always kept me informed and up to date with what was going on in her family from the time when her children were little to now when she so enjoyed her loving grandkids. We shared so much that I always felt included and loved even though I was always so far away! Ann´s passing has left such a huge hole in my heart that will never be filled. Ann, may you soar with the angels ! Love you. Your sister Lynn

Ann and I were besties. Along with Leaird and Raymond, we took day trips and a cruise together. We played games and shared a meal at least twice a month for years even during part of the Covid crisis. She was my navigator to Bunco every month. We shared our experiences, joys and concerns. She has a place in my heart.
