Margaret Merwin Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 8, 2025.
Age 79, of Attica, passed away on Wednesday, November 5, 2025. In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. Expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family on Margaret's tribute wall at detroitcremationsociety.com. Margaret was born on June 1, 1946 in Pontiac, Michigan. The daughter of Wayne J. and Georgieanna (Murthum) Merwin. She grew up in Metamora with her three beloved sisters Katherine Merwin, Lorraine (Merwin) Gertiser and Deloris (Merwin) Brown, and Grandmother Mildred (Blow) Merwin-Fox. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Suzette (Merwin) & Rob Robinson: her grandchildren: Desiree & Andrew Schenk, Trinity White, Dimitri & Brianna White, Benjamin Robinson & Megan and Hollie Smith; and her great-grandchildren: Theodore, Kaden, Adam & Tiffanie and Charlee Jean; her brothers-in-law: Scott Gertiser and Lanny Brown; and many nieces and nephews; her friend of 55 years, Janet Schalau; as well as extended family and friends. Margaret was preceded in death by several family members of blessed memory: her grandparents, parents, her niece Lisa, sisters Katherine, Lorraine, and Deloris; as well as her life partner of 52 years, Robert F. Irish; and several beloved pets. According to her wishes a Celebration of Life will be held in the Summer, near what would have been her 80th birthday and her ashes will be buried with her Grandmother, Mildred Fox, at Mayville Cemetary in a ceremony preceding the Celebration of Life. Margaret was a fantastic scratch cook and well known for her amazing pies and many popular dishes like chili, potato salad, and meatballs. She loved to garden, can tomatoes, read, play Sudoku & games, and spending time with family and friends. She enjoyed bowling and was part of a camping club for many years. She loved cooking, animals, sewing, crocheting, and thrift shopping. She was renowned for being extremely frugal and caring for others in need. She was a lifelong overcomer with a quiet, reserved faith and incredible inner strength. May she rest in peace and her memory be for a blessing. Photo courtesy of Hollie Smith Photography.
