Margaret A. Ohnstad (Murdoch), 97, of Laporte, Minn., died on Thursday, Jan. 23, 2003, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Park Rapids. She was born on Dec. 2, 1905, in Millwood, Manitoba, Canada, to James and Lucy Jane Murdoch. Margaret became a registered nurse, studying at Victoria General Hospital in Winnepeg, Manitoba. She did private nursing in Winnipeg, and was employed as a nurse at Ah-Gwah-Ching Health Care Center in Walker, and Gillett Children's Hospital in St. Paul. On July 17, 1937, she married Wilfred O. Ohnsted, and they have lived in Stillwater, White Bear Lake, Duluth and Laporte. Margaret was a homemaker; family and friends were very important to her. She was involved in the American Red Cross, Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Stillwater, First Lutheran Church in White Bear Lake, First Lutheran Church in Duluth, Trinity Lutheran Church in Laporte, Lioness Club, Weighty Business Club, and the Benedict Ladies Aid. She enjoyed hunting trips to Canada in the fall, and fishing with her husband. Their home on Horseshoe Lake in Laporte was a scene of lots of activity; kids waterskiing and neighbors fishing. Margaret's main hobbies were knitting, crocheting and playing cards. Margaret is preceded in death by her parents; brothers John Alexander Murdoch, and Walter McCormick Murdoch; sisters Grace Elizabeth May, Edith Mary Murdoch, and Ivy May Keech. She is survived by her husband Wilfred (Bill); daughter Patricia (Craig) Anderson of St. Charles, Ill; son William (Mary) Ohnsted of Duluth; grandchildren David (Sherri) Ohnsted, Mark (Bobby) Ohnsted, Steve Anderson, Amy (John) Gilbert, and Diane (Appie) Dhillon; great-grandchildren Jon Sigora, Mack Ohnsted, Melanie Ohnsted, Charlie Gilbert, Jack Gilbert, and Cory Ohnsted; numerous nieces and nephews, that all live in Canada. SERVICES:2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 27, 2003, in Trinity Lutheran Church in Laporte. Rev. Warren Broughton will officiate. Visitation will be on Sunday, January 26, 4 - 7 p.m. in the Thomas-Dennis Funeral Home in Walker, and one hour before the service at the church. Interment will be at Lake Porte Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church, PO Box 69, Laporte, MN. 56461.
