Dwight L. Barnhart

GREENE - Dwight L. Barnhart, 91, of Greene, entered eternal rest Christmas Day, Dec. 25, 2012, at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital with his family at his side.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Friday, Dec. 28, at United Methodist Church in Greene with Pastor Ashok Patet presiding.
Interment will be at Rose Hill Cemetery, Greene. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Reid's Funeral Chapel, 519 N. First St., Greene, with a prayer service at 6:45.
Memorials may be directed to the Greene Public Library or to United Methodist Church in Dwight's memory.
Dwight Luther Barnhart was born Feb. 6, 1921, in Coldwater Township, Butler County, Iowa, a son of M. Luther and Lillian (Hardy) Barnhart. He graduated from Frederika High School in 1939. Dwight worked to install electric wiring in farm houses as electricity was installed through the REC.
On Aug. 18, 1946, Dwight was united in marriage with Janet Oleson at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. This union was blessed with four children.
In 1948 Dwight and his family moved to Greene where he began work driving a fuel truck and selling petroleum products for the Farmer's Co-op. After 38 years he retired in 1986. When Dwight was 40 years old he took lessons and became a pilot, co-owning a plane kept on a rural field in Greene.
Dwight was a longtime active member of the United Methodist Church in Greene where he sang in the choir and held various positions. He served on the Greene City Council and was a member of the board of the Greene Country Club. An avid Cyclone fan he had season tickets to the football games and attended two games this fall.
Every year his family would take vacations, eventually he visited 49 states and many foreign countries including the Holy Land after he retired. Family was very important to Dwight as he never missed his children's concerts or sporting events and attended many of his grandchildrens' as his health permitted.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife: Janet; children: Diane (Paul) Larson, Fort Dodge; Karen (Charles) Franke, Charles City; Debra Noelting (special friend Matt), Aredale; Carl (Marcia) Barnhart, Mount Vernon; 9 grandchildren: Nickolas (Jasmine) Franke; Molly (Matt) Elliott; Joshua (Maggie) Franke; Jonathan Noelting (special friend Courtney); Joel (Kayla) Noelting; Rachel Noelting (special friend T.J.); Samuel Noelting; Nathaniel Barnhart and Aaron Barnhart; 6 great grandchildren: Emily, Lidia, Lucas, Isaiah, CharlieKay and Alethia; brothers and sister: Eunice Roberts, LaPorte; Blayne (Bobbie) Barnhart, Wala Wala, Wash.; Glenn (Helen) Barnhart, Camp Hill, Penn.; Paul (Martha) Barnhart, Joplin, Mo.; Earl Barnhart (special friend Donna), LaPorte; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters-in-law: Margaret & Carol Barnhart and brother-in-law Bill Roberts.
