Margaret Tupper Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province on Jan. 6, 2018.
Margaret Ada Tupper February 24, 1920 - December 15, 2017 Peggy, born in Vancouver, was the second child of three born to James Albert and Lavinia Campbell, who moved to Vancouver from Ontario after WW1. She graduated from Crofton House and was awarded her BA from McGill. During the war she was assistant head of personnel at the Boeing Aircraft factory on Sea Island, following which she went to UBC to study law. In 1946 she married Gordon Tupper and in 1947 gave birth to a son, Reginald. In the early 1950's she pursued her love of painting at the Vancouver School of Art. Over time she became an accomplished painter, printmaker and photographer. She traveled widely and brought back more inspiration for her wood cuts and watercolours, particularly from her trip to the Arctic. She was also a talented gardener. She became a specialist in alpine plants and was a member of the Alpine Society of Vancouver. Her curiosity carried on into her late eighties with creations in digital photography and computer generated art forms. She was widely known and recognized as a passionate, emphatic personality, quick to criticize things that annoyed her and even quicker to acknowledge amusing absurdities, (not excluding her own), with a quick quip or a rising, youthful, giggle. She commanded the language with a dry wit and original style that was uniquely her own. Pre-deceased by husband Gordie, she will be much missed by her son,(Reginald), his partner (Alix,) and a large number of cousins, nieces and nephews spanning several generations. Heartfelt thanks to her creative and dynamic care-giver, Frances. And a special thanks to her niece, Susan Nelson, who devoted so many years of care and attention to her well being.
