Correction to my previous post. My mother died in 2011, and Margaret, so thoughtfully, followed with a call.

Praying for you, Margaret.

In mid April of 2015, my mother Violet Kipela Wagner died. She had grown up in Homestead and was a noted violinist, particularly known throughout Homestead.
Sometime later a message was left on my phone---" This is Margaret Vojtko, I didn't your mother, but I knew who she was. I'll call another time".

I never heard back, and later I tried to locate Margaret, but never made contact.

So now the mystery is solved. I just started looking again and found pages and pages on Margaret online and a story which details an immigrant family very similar to my mother's. Margaret was a lover of Homestead history and so I see the connection.

I'm thankful for her call. It would have been nice to have talked to Margaret, but her message was enough to make me feel good about my mother's legacy.

Margaret Mary, you fought the good fight in trying to keep your dignity while engaged in that noble profession of professing education. Rest in Peace!

Madame Vojtko was one of the best teachers I have ever had in my life. I will miss her greatly. She was an exceptionally smart woman. My sincerest condolences to her family.

Madame Vojtko was instrumental in both helping me re-discover French (and language), and helping me to learn more about my slavic roots. She was a very kind person and great teacher who cared about her students. She will be missed. Odpocinutie vecné

I was saddened to hear of Madame Vojtko's death today. She taught me French 101 at the university level and I remember her genuine pleasure at the small appreciation gift I gave her at the end of the semester. As a teacher, she may not have had a job that makes a lot of money, but she had a job that makes a difference. I'm glad to have known her.

I shall miss Margaret and our many conversations throughout the years searching for the right words as we were doing translations from French to English and from English to French. I wish she could help me now to find words that convey adequately my sense of loss and the depth of my sorrow.
Requiesce in pace, Margaret!

Pani Vojtkova was a very talented teacher and was a very kind and caring person. She taught me Slovak during my lunch break for a year out of the mere kindness of her heart. She left a great imprint of sharing and helping others on my heart. I will miss her.
