Margene "Mac" Herman

Margene "Mac" Herman, 93, of Wapakoneta died 1:45 p.m., Sunday July 24, 2016, at Wapakoneta Manor. She was born April 10, 1923, in Clinton County, Oh., the daughter of Robert J. and Vadah (Hodgson) McDermott, who preceded her in death. On March 17, 1945, she married Dr. Robert J. Herman, and he survives in Wapakoneta.
Other survivors include, five children; Pamela (George) Murphy of Cincinnati, Oh., Gary Herman of St. Marys, Oh., John (Mary) Herman of Hutchinson Island, Fla., Michele Herman of Lima, and Dr. George (Dr. Parmie) Herman of Wapakoneta; eight grandchildren, Jason, Jill, Jesse, Jennifer, Matthew, Elizabeth, David, and Courtney; twelve Great grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Johnston of Findlay, Oh.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold and Fred McDermott, and a sister, Pauline Easter.
Mac graduated from Wilmington High School in 1941, and then in 1944 she graduated from the Christ Hospital School of Nursing, Cincinnati. She served as a Girl Scout & Cub Scout leader, and helped originate the Red Cross Blood Program in Wapakoneta. She was a member and past president of the former Auglaize Co. Medical Assn. Auxiliary, and was medical advisor to the Medical Careers Club at Wapakoneta High School. A member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, Wapakoneta, she was a past leader of its Youth Fellowship and a former church board member. Mac was on the board that helped established the Licensed Practical Nursing School at the Apollo Career Center. She was a member of the Helen Hunt Circle, and a past member of the Jr. Service League and the Wapakoneta Woman's Club. She also helped her husband establish his office and medical practice in Wapakoneta.
