Resident of Danville
Mari Kolb of Danville, CA, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2017, at the San Ramon Regional Medical Center. Mari was born in Albany, CA on Aug. 27,1946, the daughter of Joseph and "Fannie Jo" or "Josie" Campana. Her father ("Pods"), was the owner/operator of Campana Music in the center of town which was well-known by thousands of area students over the years. Campana Music is still to this day the longest operating business in the small town of Lafayette. Mari attended Acalanes High School, where she was active in beauty competitions and many philanthropic activities. She was crowned Miss La Fiesta Square in 1962. She went on to Arizona State University, where she met her future husband, Chuck Kolb. Mari held several part-time jobs through high school and college; one in particular was a summer job at Disneyland, driving the famous Monorail. Later on, after the kids were older, Mari began flying with Reno Air, and American Airlines, where she worked for 15 years. She was an avid distance runner, and competed in 38 total marathons. She set a personal record of 3 hours and 8 minutes in the prestigious Boston Marathon. Chuck and Mari were married September 13, 1969 in San Francisco, and moved to Walnut Creek, CA. Eventually, they moved to Danville, CA in the Blackhawk community near Mt. Diablo. They were very involved in their children's various sports over the years. They celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary in September, 2016. Mari was preceded in death by her daughter, Alison Mari Kolb; her father, Joseph Campana, and her mother, "Josie" Campana. Mari is survived by her husband, Chuck of Danville, CA. She is also survived by her son, Brandon (Engla) Kolb, and her three grandsons, Brandon Jr., Crosby, and Milo of Flower Mound, TX. Also, by her granddaughter, Madeline Mari Foster of Pleasant Hill, CA; and her grandson Joseph Silvia of Atascadero, CA. Mari's brother, Dana Campana resides in Spokane, WA. Mari & Chuck loved to travel, visiting Europe, Hawaii, Mexico and numerous areas of the USA. The entire Kolb family would like to thank Mari's caregivers, long-time friend Debbi Roll and Nadia and Fawzia Razawi for the excellent care provided to Mari over the past few years. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made to: The Campana Music Education Fund, and c/o Campana Music 990 Moraga Rd. Oh Mari, another year gone by my dear. If I told you how many times I think about you, it wouldn't be believed. I touch bases with Chuck now and then... He always sounds upbeat, but inside, I KNOW he's missing you deeply... Always will love you, Mari and forever I will miss you!! XO

Class of ‘64. As we age we lose more and more classmates and know that time is flying by too fast. (Btw Mari, Carolyn Rosso couldn’t believe you were gone). As I write this in January, 2021, my memories with Mari take me back to such a much simpler time. How blessed to grow up in Lafayette. We definitely had a good life in a wonderful town. I think of her family’s thriving business and fast forward to the difficult challenges faced today amid the Covid19 virus pandemic that has devastated so many losing jobs, travel, socializing and I cannot help having the peaceful visual of a smiling Mari flying heavenly high above all the storms below. Thankful for God’s promises.

Time is so fleeting, however, losing a loved one can seem just like yesterday. My heart goes out to all those loved ones.

What a blessing to have known Mari. I always admired her confident boldness. She was one sharp cookie and one had to be on their toes when in conversation! Mari exhibited so many talents and how I wish we could all go back in time for one more ride in that Thunderbird!

I will just have to wait, knowing that day will come all too soon.

Praying for your peace and a hug to your hearts as you relive some of those blessed memories.

The wonderful, caring and fortunate memories that I have had shared with a flying angel that was hard working and loving will be missed. Fly safely and continue spreading your warm smile and loving heart with everyone in the high heaven we call our final destination. I will miss your fresh baked home made goodies that you would share with everyone you loved and flew with. I will miss your laughter and your presence always. Heaven will be a better place now that you are up there flying and baking! God speed your on time arrival! Your former Reno Air, American Airline Flight Attendant and friend,

What a blessing to have had the opportunity to see Mari and have a nice chat at our 50th high school reunion. I hadn't seen her in years and was so happy to hear about the rich life she led and so sorry to hear of the heartaches. I will always remember Mari as a very flamboyant, high energy person in high school. She enjoyed keeping up with the latest fashion trends. Mari could have been one of the personalities out of the movie "Grease" because she loved cruising around in her beautiful T-bird in Walnut Creek on Friday nights and then making a stop at Mels Drive In.

While visiting with her at the reunion I couldn't help but admire Mari's beautiful spirit, courage and strength. She expressed how thankful she was for her husband and friends.

Rest well, Mari and may we all meet again for a heavenly ride on Friday night. Prayers and sympathy to all of her family for their loss.
