Maria Cole

Maria Cole, known to her friends and loved ones as Marika, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2024, in Shelby Township, Michigan. She was born Maria Anna Kuszyk to Wasyl and Anna Kuszyk on August 10, 1947, in Munich, Germany.

Marika immigrated with her family to the United States at age two and grew up in Hamtramck near Detroit, Michigan. Marika attended Immaculate Conception schools, where she made lifelong friends. She was very proud to be a "Ukie."

A graduate of Wayne State University, Marika studied Russian and played the violin in the college orchestra. She had a decades-long career as an insurance claims adjuster and was a hard-working mother to two children. Marika enjoyed cooking (especially mushrooms) and never met a kitchen gadget that she didn't like.

Marika's memory will be cherished by her children Adriana and Adam (Amanda) and her granddaughter Mia, as well as her other family and friends.

Services to honor and celebrate Marika's life will be held on September 7, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Michael the Archangel Ukrainian Catholic Church in Dearborn, Michigan. A luncheon will follow, with the details to be announced at the service.
