Maria Staub Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 31, 2024.
Maria Staub, 64, of East Northport, NY passed away with friends and family by her side on July 25, 2024, after an eight year battle with Early-onset Alzheimer's Disease. Maria will be fondly remembered for her boundless energy and positive spirit, as well as the unconditional love and support extended to her numerous family and friends.

Born on August 15, 1959, in Queens, NY, she was the youngest daughter of the late Gerald Delmato and Laura Gigante Delmato. Maria shared a special lifelong bond with her two older sisters, Lisa and Gina. After a childhood spent on Long Island, the family moved to Houston, Texas where she attended high school. Upon graduation and the family's return to Long Island, Maria followed in her sister's footsteps becoming a physical therapist.

Maria was many things: a well-respected physical therapist who cared for her patients with dedication and discipline; an avid music listener whose energy inspired everyone to dance; a friend to all, charming everyone around (including strangers) with her contagious spirit and enthusiasm; and above all, a devoted mother and wife who was deeply proud of her family.

Maria was her children's biggest fan, always celebrating their success and happiness, and full of pride in seeing them enter into successful careers and relationships. After her diagnosis, Maria was cared for at home by her loving and devoted husband, who prioritized her needs over his own. They remained best friends until her final day. She was comforted by frequent visits from friends and family, and became "Mimi" to her first Grandchild in 2021.

She is survived by her husband, Michael Staub of East Northport; her two children, Ian Staub (Megan) of San Francisco, and Mackenzie Kemp (Patrick) of Philadelphia; grandson Ciro (3) and future grandson Kemp; Sister Lisa Janson (Russell) of Mechanicsburg, PA, Brother Gerald Delmato (Debbie) of Preston, CT; many loving nieces and nephews, and several grand nieces and grand nephews.

A reception (3:30pm) and memorial service (5:30pm) will be held on August 29th at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Huntington. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Visiting Nurse Service and Hospice of Suffolk Inc.

Maria turned us on to a great group that goes by the name of Dawes. Maria and Mike visited the Berkshires to see Dawes with us twice, once in CT and once in Northampton. Jackson Browne sings back up on one of the songs. Now, Jackson has a very distinctive voice easily recognizable. Before the part with Jackson, Maria got excited and kept yelling, "That's Jackson Browne singing, that's Jackson Browne singing"! She was so excited to share this with us, and we just kept laughing because she must have said it ten times. I can never listen to Dawes without thinking of Maria and Mike and the good times we had. They weren't nearly enough. Rest well, Maria. You and Mike made a beautiful family, you worked hard and brought joy to all your friends. You have left a beautiful legacy.
