Brenda and I send our condolences. As my brother Hal stated in his post we had a lot of fun times with the Hughes family. In addition to the occasions Hal described, tailgating at the Yale games comes to mind. Marian always made us feel like part of the family with her kindness, warmth and sense of humor.

Marian was a dear friend, grandmother and mother in law. She filled my life with lots of laughter. She was so happy that her first grandchild was a girl, and then a second grandaughter! Pink dresses, dancing to the piano, eatover/sleepovers and many family get togethers. She was patient, kind and gracious and I will miss her dearly.

My family connected with the Hughesies soon after they moved to Surf Club Road in Madison. Ned and Marian both were always welcoming and generous hosts for all the boys´ friends, including my brother Rick and me. Marian´s brother "Uncle Frank" Attinger always called her "Beeb-eye" (sp?) which caught on among us. They always said Marian went to "Westchester Strange Creatures College", and had many other funny hughesisms that Marian was sure to propagate. I remember lobstering on their boat out of West Wharf, volleyball on the beach there, and Saturday night lobster bakes at their place, not to mention all manner of sports hijinks on the golf course in front of their house. Marian was a talented, funny and warm person, and I am thankful to have lived in her aura for much of my youth.

If I could only name one person in the world as my best friend, it would be Marian Hughes. A very special person.
Rest in peace. You touched so many lives.

I have so many wonderful memories of Marian from rounds of golf, parties at Ned and Marian's home and happy hour at the Woodlawn where Marian could play any college fight song on the piano. She was a good friend, loved her children and Neddles and always made me laugh. She will always have a special place in my heart and whenever I play golf I often think of Marian and her "Winter Wheat" hair color which she would use as a mantra for her golf swing timing.
She will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her and Ned.
May she rest in peace.
