To former First Lady Michelle Obama & Coach Craig Robinson & Family, you have my deepest condolences on the loss of your mom, Ms. Marian Robinson. Michelle, hearing you speak of your mom during the DNC, reminded me of her true presence and support during President Obama´s time in the White House. She was a true role model of what a Great Mom should be. Seeing the joy on her face when America learned we had just elected our First African American President, was heartfelt and a pleasure to witness. Your mom´s strength, devotion and determination to take care of her family, your family, "America´s Family" by accompanying you to The White House, was the most admirable, selfless act of kindness anyone could do. Ms. Robinson´s smile, her laugh, her love and her legacy will continue to live through you & your beautiful children. My thoughts & prayers will continue to pour out for your families as you continue to mourn the loss of your mom. May God grant you peace, comfort and understanding during this difficult time. To the Family of Marian Robinson:
As You Remember Your Mother, Grandmother and Mother-in-Law, "Sorrow" is too small a word for what you're going through. There's not a word deep enough or wide enough to help you cope with the pain. Even in times when there are no words, hope there is comfort in knowing so many people are thinking of you and holding you close in their hearts.
May you always keep treasured memories of Mrs. Robinson in your heart, and may you also find comfort in knowing that those who have passed on in death God keeps in his memory because they are all precious in his eyes. And may he give you the strength needed as you continue on this journey of life.
Respectfully,
E H

My mother, Jeanette Elam Hamilton, often spoke of her childhood friend, Marian. She lived around the corner from my mother, they grew up together and were high school classmates. The two of them, along with another girlfriend, rode together to Englewood's 50th high school reunion. Even though I did not personally know her, I thought of her fondly.

My condolences during the most difficult time of your lives. I am saddened by her passing.
Marian was a fierce woman. I feel as though I met her through your (Michelle´s) books. I feel as though I knew her since I am also a south sider from Chicago pushing my kids to never see boundaries but to continue to push through them. Your mother taught me so many things through your (Michelle) books. She raised two strong independent children and I hope to use her nurturing methods and do the same with my daughter and son. I will never forget "you are not special". In the grand scheme of things, we are not, but your mom was. She stayed humble and kept her family humble as well. She never let anything go to your head. She believed in hard work and felt anyone could do anything so long as they worked at it.
May you rest in peace Marian.

Condolences to the family of Mrs. Marian Robinson,
When we lost our Dad we benefitted from an article we read back in 2011 that we keep handy that I would like to share a paragraph:
"Challenging as it may be, working through grief will help you to move on with your life. Do not feel guilty, as if by moving on you would be betraying your loved one or forgetting him or her. The fact is that you will never forget your loved one..... Memories of your loved one can be the very tool you need to help you to move on. That is what a young man named Alex found. "After my dad´s death," he says, "I resolved to keep living as he had taught me-never to forget to enjoy life. To those who have lost a parent, I would say this: You´ll never truly get over your parent´s death, but you don´t have to let it dominate you. Mourn and grieve as you must, but don´t forget that you still have to make the best of the life that is ahead of you."
I'm positive this will help your family too!

What I learned about the late Marian Lois Shields Robinson are the many ways in which her love, character, wisdom, values, selflessness and conduct reflected back to me those of my family's own Marian Robinson - my mother, née Marian Jean-Louise Robinson (1921-1996), of Palatka, Florida. Knowing what a deep void it leaves in one's heart to lose such a mother so righteous and so dear, I offer my heartfelt condolences to the Obamas, the Robinsons and the extended family. I pray that as they mourn, they will be comforted by friends and find solace in memories of the times they shared. May light perpetual shine upon both Marian Robinsons, and may they rest in eternal peace.

Condolences to Michelle, Craig, and the Obama family. Thank you for sharing your mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother with the American public. The matriarch of your family was such a great example of unconditional love as was your appreciation of her while she was alive which we saw time and time again in action, words, expressions, and photos-all which we were privy to see because of Barack Obama's presidency. It's comforting to know her legacy lives on. Liz OuYang

Dear Michelle and family,
I followed your family, when you were in the White House, and was so impressed by all of you... your dignity, character and integrity, as a family unit. Because I, too, am a wife, mother and grandmother, I was really impressed with the quiet strength of Mrs. Marion Robinson, so dedicated to her family above all else. It some ways it may have appeared to be a sacrifice, on her part, to give up years of her life in Chicago, to be there for her children and granddaughters, but she loved it, because of her undying love for them. Only a parent could understand this.
Marion ...I say this with the utmost respect, because I am in my eighties,
you rest in the Peace that you so deserve, and may your memories be a blessing.
May God continue to bless, protect and direct your children, grandchildren and your son-in-law, President Barack Obama. May they all continue to follow in your footsteps.
Rest in Eternal Peace with Our Heavenly Father, God.
With Our Sympathy,
The Davis Family ( Anna, Jerry, Children and Grandchildren)
