Marian Schroeder Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 15, 2024.
Marian Jane (Metzler) Schroeder, 86, of Havertown, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully at her home on November 9, 2024, surrounded by love and sunshine. A beloved lifelong resident of Havertown, "Mar" moved to Llanerch at age 10 and spent nearly all the rest of her life in the family home. She was the daughter of the late W. Donaldson and Elizabeth Metzler.

Marian graduated from Haverford High in 1956 and earned her nursing degree from the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing. Her career as a registered nurse spanned Bryn Mawr Hospital, PCOM, and HUP, culminating in her retirement in 2004. Mar's nurturing spirit extended beyond her profession, as she formed lasting friendships from childhood, through her son Drew's rehabilitation, and into her later years as a painter.

Mar was lucky to have a second chance at love with Clay Schroeder after he arrived at her doorstep one day, sharing 17 fun-filled years of marriage until his passing in 2014. Her passions included gardening, reading, and art, and she enjoyed traveling to New Zealand, Australia, Europe, and throughout the U.S. Above all, Marian treasured her grandchildren: Jordan, Kelsey, and Maya, who will forever hold their Grammy in their hearts.

Marian leaves behind her son Andrew Muir, daughter Kathleen LeBlanc, son-in-law Regan LeBlanc, and grandchildren Jordan (Lorraine), Kelsey, and Maya, along with her great-granddaughter Emory. She is also survived by her sister Kathi Wood and brother-in-law Woody, brother James Metzler and sister-in-law Emily, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her amazing daughter Elizabeth "Liz" Muir, husband Clayton, and sisters Virginia Metzler, Barbara Oberly, and Carol Scattergood, Mar's legacy of love and optimism endures.

Friends are invited to a celebration of her life at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, December 2, at Haverford Community Recreation & Environmental Center, 9000 Parkview Dr, Haverford, PA 19041. Contributions toward the placement of a bench with a plaque honoring Marian in the Arboretum at Haverford College can be made at https://gofund.me/4064f038.

When I was just a young girl Marian and my mother were our little brownie troop leaders. As a young girl I loved spending time at the Muir household. Marian was always so warm and welcoming. She always created a safe space for us. I admitted Marian thru the years as she cared for all her children. Kathy Liz and most of all drew! An amazing lady!

My first memory of Marian was of her beating me in the dash in 4th grade. I´ve never recovered. She was one of my oldest and dearest friends. Regardless of what like served her way Marian´s glass was always half full. May God bless her soul.

I was a classmate of Marian´s at Hospital of Universary of Pennsylvania.
We were friends at nursing school in the late 50´s. At our 50 th reunion from Penn,
A group of us from nursing school were invited to a friend´s home in Marco Island,
Florida. There were 11 of us. We were fortunate to meet every year after on Marco Island. It was very special that we were friends in our senior years. Our group of nursing school friends went to France. We took a barge trip through Burgundy.
Marian and I were room mates on the barge. We enjoyed getting along so well in a very tiny room. I was so saddened to hear of Marian´s passing. She was a friend to everyone, truly a special woman whom I shall never forget. Jane Brownley

Aunt Marion was one of the kindest, most generous souls I've ever met. Her gardens remind me of her. Such beauty! She chose perennials so that bees and birds could thrive. We definitely talked gardening & BOOKS! She was such an avid reader, and a good person to ask, "What good book are you reading currently?" She always had good picks. You were loved Aunt Marion...You are loved! May you prosper in your next endeavor. Peace to you.
