"Warm over cool, cool over warm". The Vern Law quote on the board, "First you fail the test, then you learn the lesson." Watching the Dodgers play in the World Series on a tiny TV in the back of life drawing class; Orel Hersheiser pitching...she said, "Orel's just singing hymns, singing hymns." My sincerest condolences. Talk about a county treasure.

I have repeated things she taught me so often; things from painting and drawing classes, that Marian is everywhere now; the air we breathe is her.

She created the safest of places for me to model for her life drawing classes. She acknowledged my muscles, and that was an impactful moment for me.

My first memory is foggy but it involves brown cigarettes, the smell of turpentine and a welcoming person.

I had the privilege of taking Marian's art classes at Cuesta in the early 1990's. She would turn down the lights, blast the Talking Heads, and walk around the room. She was always encouraging in her feedback and critiques. During class breaks, she would hang out with us and smoke her long cigarettes. She was the coolest......

Marian was a friend, confidante, and mentor in my life, especially during the `90s. Also, a neighbor, living just a few blocks from me. She was always devoted to her family and her art and students. Teaching was natural to her. She modeled for me the art of living in acceptance of that which we cannot change, and enriched my perspective and appreciation of our common human journey. Marian´s memory is a blessing.

The definition of giving away to keep it. So many memories. She guided me through so many storms and good times too. I'll never forget her. My favorite truth from her was "you can have anything you want in life, as long as you're willing to pay the consequences, good or bad". See you on the other side.

So sorry to hear of the passing of my colleague at Cuesta College.
We both enjoyed wonderful times together and sharing in our designated areas of interest. I loved walking into Marion´s art class and observing the wonderful achievements of her students. Always knocked me out.

She was the first person I modeled for. Her character intrigued me so I continued to model for her. I grew to love her. I will always remember her

It must have been around 1982 that I had my first life drawing class with Marian. She had an amazing show at Cal Poly, one that radiated emotions so powerful that I had to leave the room. I bought one of her paintings that day. I took more classes from her, then stopped, then called her when I battled breast cancer. "May I sit in your class?" She never said no when you needed help. Her classes are among my warmest memories.

Whenever she spoke, she couldn't help but radiate profound wisdom and caring. Like a lot of old friends, I haven't seen her in years since moving to the PNW; miss you all.

In the summer of 1977, Marian and Valerie hauled me to meetings in SLO, Morro Bay, and Los Osos. We were the same age and shared a love of wine in gallon bottles. 47 years and many gallons of coffee, several books of poetry illuminated with Marian´s singular drawings, a couple of husbands, several children and grandchildren later, she has left our lives but never our hearts, our memories, or our stories. Thank you, Marian. Say Hi to Gary.

"Nothing, absolutely nothing, happens in God's world by mistake". She loved that line. She read that from As Bill Sees It everytime I asked her to read. So many of us out here missing her. I'm grateful to have known her and she is missed.

I first met Marian when my daughter and I went to the hospital to visit Bob Stevens, who was in the hospital. He was the Morro Bay High wrestling coach and my daughter was on the cheering squad. Marian had the cutest mini skirt and lovely high boots on. I thought she looked to be about 16. Marian retained that youthfulness the rest of her life - a life devoted to extending her hand and heart to others who needed her special kind of attention. Evey time Marian spoke I learned something new. Whether it was about art or daily living, everything she touched was made clearer or solved by her. See you at the Big Meeting in the great beyond, Dear Girl. Love From Susie

I can see Marian´s beautiful face as a young girl coming to play with Annie at the house in Baywood. The space was filled with art and the architecture inspired unique and creative play! This made an impact on me .
As an older person modeling for her Art class at Cuesta while pregnant with my son , she again inspired me to embrace the changes in my body by creating a safe free space.
I am sending love and light to the entire community of Marian.
Blessings, Erin Noble
