Marie Bolding Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 3, 2023.
Marie Joyce Utsler Bolding of Houston, Texas passed away on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, at the age of 84. She died peacefully with her children by her side.

Marie was born on February 27, 1939, in Indianola, Iowa to William (Bill) and Joyce Utsler. Her dad, mother, and little brother Billy lived in Iowa and Minnesota before moving to Texas when she was 9 years old. Marie spent many summers and vacations with her family up north even after the move south. Her northern cousins were like sisters and brothers to her. She graduated from Belton High School and then attended Temple Jr. College. She met and married Bob Bolding and moved to Austin where Marie worked for the University of Texas while Bob completed his senior year. After graduation, they moved to Houston and joined the St. Stephen's United Methodist Church. In their Sunday School class, they met a group of life-long friends who affectionately became known as the "Bridge Group". They would grow to be the friends that became family.

She would always stay in touch with her Minnesota and Iowa (and California) family throughout her years with visits, cousin trips and owning stock in Hallmark Cards. Christmas, Valentines, Birthdays...but her favorite "holiday" to send cards out was...Halloween. In fact, she sent out over a dozen of them in October. She was a loving caring mother, cousin, friend, and "Mimi" and wanted everyone to know they were loved and thought about often, and Hallmark helped her out with that.

She loved old movies and was an avid game player. Cards, dominoes, board games, trivia...you name it, and she would play it. If you ever caught yourself in a trivia game about old movies...just know you were going to lose. She had skills and luck!

Marie was proceeded in death by her husband, Bob in the spring of 2022. They had been married for 62 years. She is survived by her children, Scott Bolding, his wife Lori and their daughters: Amy, Allie, and Annie; Melissa Bolding; Jennifer Williams, her husband Shane and their daughters: Samantha and Haley; and Tony Bolding, his wife Sarah and their children: Colee, Wyatt, Cassidy, and Harlow.

A celebration of Marie's life will be held on Saturday, December 30th from 2-4pm at Los Tios at 14006 Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77079. Please join us in celebrating her life.

In her honor...please dress in purple as this was always Mimi's favorite color.

In lieu of customary remembrances, please consider memorial contributions to the Alzheimer's Association.

I will always remember her love. I was her niece, but she treated me like one of her own. She cared without limits. I will miss her smile, her laugh, her sweet voice, and of course, her Halloween cards.
