Marie Boutwell Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 24, 2025.
Marie Boutwell, 55, was called Home on August 7, 2025, after a courageous battle with glioblastoma.

Marie Jeanette Boutwell was born October 18, 1969, to loving parents, Elizabeth and Herbert Valver of Queens, NY.

As a child, Marie grew up in Uniondale, Long Island, where she and her sister, Christine, enjoyed an amazing childhood, always surrounded by friends and family.

Marie and her family moved to Cape Coral, FL in 1978, where she graduated from Cape Coral High School in 1987. An avid writer, Marie was editor of the high school newspaper during her senior year.

In her early career Marie was a pharmacy tech at the Cape Coral Eckerds. She was a member of the Cape Coral Jaycees and participated in several local events and projects.

Weddings bells rang in 1999 when Marie married the love of her life, Tom Boutwell, also of Cape Coral. They spent over 25 years in love and laughter. Watching movies, traveling to the mountain, and spending time with family and friends occupied much of their time together.

Marie dedicated her life to the Lord and was an active member of Saint Cecilia's Catholic Community. She loved Jesus and lived a life of faithfulness and devotion, spreading His word through worship as a lector, in bible study, and through faith formation as a sponsor. Marie spent many hours volunteering at Saint Cecilia's and lived Jesus through interaction and community, as well as in quiet times of worship.

Marie is predeceased by her parents and grandparents. She is survived by her husband, Thomas Boutwell of Cape Coral. Her sister, Christine Hodges of Alva. Her in-laws, Tom and Rita Boutwell of Cape Coral. Her sister-in-law, Coreen Bell, (Christian), of Cincinnati. Her nephews, Jonathan Hodges, Emery Bell and Ethan Bell. She was loved by her aunts and uncles, and many wonderful cousins.

A celebration of life will be held at St. Cecilia's on Saturday, Sept. 13th at 10am.

I miss you! I still find myself reaching for the phone to call you to chat and share the day´s craziness. I absolutely know that you are in Heaven, walking and talking with Jesus. I hope our angels had coffee and cake waiting for you, with big hugs and celebration. I love you Marie! I´m doing my best but it´s different...lonely. Some days I´m ok, some days not so much. I know you would expect me to get it together, and yes, pray and go to church. I know. My sister and best friend, always. I´ll see you when I get there. Save me a spot and make sure there´s coffee. I love you always!!

I am saddened and so sorry for your loss Christine and family. Your sister Marie was a very special part of my teenage & college years as we all used to hang out in each other's houses, St. Andrews Church, Jaycees events, the list of wonderful memories we shared goes on.

Marie, also was one of the most kind hearted and devout Christians that I ever knew. I love how she would post inspirational thoughts and shared Gods word with everyone.
I hope treasured memories, knowing she is no longer suffering and that she is with your Mom, Nana and Jesus help soothe your heart and soul. Even though we are miles apart, I am always here for you Christine and love you

I will miss you forever Marie. Thank you for loving my brother and all of us. We had a lot of really good times over the last 27+ years! Lots of laughter and silliness and went through tough times too. I know you are with the Lord and you are in glory! Selfishly we want you here but I am thankful your suffering is through. I will love you forever
