Marie Desjardin Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 10, 2025.
Marie Louise Desjardin, 76, passed away peacefully after a two year battle with lung cancer, on May 4, 2025, in Sacramento, California. Born on December 28, 1948, in Crescent City, California, Marie lived a life rooted in compassion, individuality, and quiet strength.

A proud sister, mother and grandmother, Marie found her greatest joy in her family. She is lovingly remembered by her brother and sister in law Dennis and Ann Desjardin, daughter Ramie Lee Gallagher and son-in-law Kevin Gallagher. Her grandchildren, Darren and Natalee Gallagher, brought immense pride and happiness to her life. Marie will be missed by numerous extended family members including in-laws, nieces and nephews. Marie also shared many cherished years with her longtime partner, Ignacio Villalobos.

Marie was predeceased by her father Edmund Desjardin Jr., mother Alice Desjardin, beloved daughter Randee Lee and her late husband Nick Desjardin. Their memories remained close to her heart throughout her life.

Growing up in the coastal town of Crescent City led to her love of nature and appreciation for all. A true child of the 1960s, Marie carried the spirit of that era with her always-she was a hippie at heart who believed deeply in peace and justice. Her love for 60's music filled her home with rhythm and nostalgia, while her passion for gardening reflected the care she extended to all living things. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed preparing special meals for her family. Many dishes were influenced by family recipes that were passed down for generations. Marie's love of gardening and cooking was greatly influenced by her late mother Alice, who was famous for a thriving greenhouse and home-made meals. Some of Marie's proudest moments include serving as a volunteer firefighter in the 70's and attending culinary school with her late husband. Marie was also committed to social justice causes that aligned with her values of equality and kindness. She never shied away from sharing her political opinions on Facebook, a platform that kept her connected with many friends, especially her childhood connections from her hometown.

Marie's legacy is one of warmth, resilience, and authenticity. She will be remembered for the peaceful presence she brought into every room and the unwavering love she gave to those around her.

May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her. Memorial donations may be made in Marie's memory to the Sacramento SPCA. Marie strongly believed in the SPCA's mission to create a compassionate community for animals, including her best furry friend, Ace, the one she lovingly adopted from the Sacramento SPCA.

A celebration of life will take place for Marie on Saturday, May 17, 2025.

Dear Uncle Marie,
Thanks for all the laughter and fun times. I have such good memories of you, from when I was a kid through being neighbors when I was in college, and even the last few years of occasional texting. You were always so kind and supportive. I'll miss you.
Much love, Kerri
