Marie Lysak Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 31, 2006.
LYSAK-Marie, passed away peacefully at the Regina Lutheran Care Home on May 28, 2006 at the age of 93. Born in the Ukraine on January 10, 1913, Maria immigrated to Canada in 1938 with her husband Bohdan and infant son Peter. Upon arrival in Canada they resided in Tarnapol for the first year, then moved to the Weirdale district where they farmed from 1939 1999. In 1999 they moved to Prince Albert. After her husband's passing in 2003, Maria moved to Regina to be near three of her children. She resided in a private care home until January 2005 when she moved into the Lutheran Care Home. During her 60 years on the farm, Maria worked hard cooking, sewing, knitting, raising her six children and alongside her husband laboring on the farm raising animals and looking after a huge garden. In the little time she had for recreation, she enjoyed reading her Ukrainian newspapers and books and singing in her opera voice. Her commitment to her community and church gained her many friends. She was a strong advocate for education and was very proud of the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren. Maria was predeceased by her husband of 66 years Bohdan; her parents and siblings in the Ukraine and a brother-inlaw in Canada. Left to cherish her memory are her six children; Peter (Loraine) Lysak of Regina; Lessia (Doug) Innes of Cochrane, AB; Eugene (Rose) Lysak of Foxford, SK; Naomi (Warren) Lee of Regina; Zenon (Pam) Lysak of Regina; Sylvia (Brian) Hrynkiw of Spiritwood; 15 grandchildren Dale Lysak of San Fransisco, CA; Pam (Tom) Matuseski of Minneapolis, MN; Karen Lysak of Orinda, CA; Mark (Joan) Innes of Calgary; Larissa Innes of London, England; Jason (Jennifer Willans) Innes of Calgary; Kevin (Erin Ksyniuk) Lysak of Weirdale; Lori (Bill) Hall of Assiniboia; Terry Lysak of Prince Albert; Craig McClughan of Saskatoon; Dori (Jason Dunn) Lee, of Calgary; Trina (Jonathon Firman) Lee of Lintlaw; Alisa Lee of Carnduff; Tara, Shawn and Amy Lysak of Regina; six great grandchildren Cody, Kyle, Ashley and Bryce Hall; Chloe and Jordan Innes. A celebration of Maria's life will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 1, 2006 at Gray's Funeral Chapel, 575 28th St W. In lieu of other tributes, donations may be made to the Regina Lutheran Care Home, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church or a charity of choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Gray's Funeral Chapel. Drew Gray, Funeral Director.

Dear Peter & Loraine,

Al and I are deeply saddened to have read in the Regina Leader-Post of the passing of your precious mother.

"A LIFE FULLY LIVED SHINES ON IN THE HEAVENS."

Wishing you a hand to hold when you feel down,

A star to wish on when dreams fill your heart and

A smile to cheer you when you need it most.

Forever hold the memories of your dearly departed close to your heart. They will give you the much needed strength you so deserve. Seek solace in that you now have a very special angel watching over all of you.

Think of your mother as living in the hearts of those she touched...for nothing loved is ever lost.

With our most sincere condolences to you and your family,

Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this very sad time.
