Marie E. (Zarini) Hanley, Rabb, Plumhoff was born at home to Christina Fenolia and Charles Zarini on May 4, 1919, in Louisville, CO. After graduating high school, she attended the University of Colorado where she met and fell in love with her first husband, Robert (Bob) J. Hanley. They married and had three children, Bob, Jack and Sharon. The family lived briefly in Billings, MT, Denver, CO and Laramie, WY. After Bob died of a heart attack in November of 1947, Marie, just 28, moved with her three young children back to Louisville to be near her family.
Marie had a long and successful career with Mountain States Telephone Company. She started as a switchboard operator in Louisville and transferred to the Denver office of Mountain Bell with the introduction of rotary dial phones. In 1965, Marie retired from the telephone company when she married her second husband, Gordon Rabb, a CPA in Casper WY. Upon his retirement, they moved to Rancho Bernardo CA to pursue their love of sailing and golf. Gordon passed away in 1989 after a long battle with emphysema. Marie found love again when she met and married her third husband Robert (Bob) Plumhoff, a retired executive of Ford Motor Company. After Bob passed away in 2009, Marie moved to Casa de las Campanas, a retirement community in
Rancho Bernardo, CA where she resided until her passing shortly after celebrating her 105th birthday.
Marie was deeply dedicated to her family and was a loving, devoted and supportive wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a gracious hostess who loved to entertain and enjoyed the company of her family and her many friends. She was a woman of strong faith, who loved to cook (especially Italian), adored growing roses and was always up for a good game of bridge. Charming and cheeky, her sense of humor was legendary.
Marie is survived by two of her children, John (Jack) Hanley (Barbara) of Denver, CO and Sharon Hanley Martin of Los Gatos, CA; Robert (Bob) J. Hanley II passed away in 1977. She is also survived by six grandchildren (granddaughter Lisa Kowynia predeceased her), thirteen great-grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren as well as many stepchildren, nieces, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Marie's family acknowledges and extends their sincere gratitude to the wonderful care providers at Casa de las Campanas Health Care Center and Comfort & Peace Hospice. For those wishing to honor Marie, the family suggests a contribution in her memory to: Comfort & Peace Hospice (San Diego, CA), or Louisville Historical Society (Louisville, CO).
Interment in Littleton, CO on a date TBD.
