Marie D. Walker

STOCKBIDGE - Marie Dorothy Walker, daughter of William and Gladys Heintz, passed away at Spring Village in Essex, Vermont, on Sunday, Jan. 28, 2018, in the company of her children. Marie's big heart of 88 years decided to rest.
Marie was predeceased by her husband, Elwin J. Walker, June 17, 2014.
She was the last surviving child of William and Gladys Heintz. She was the first born of three children. Her brother, Bill and spouse Jean Heintz, brother Ralph and spouse Annabel Heintz, all have proceeded her.
Marie is survived by her three children John Walker, of South Burlington, Julie Wayland, of Lyndon, and Robert A. Walker, of Essex. She was a proud and loving grandmother to her three grandchildren Sam, Brandon and Sydney Walker. Sam is son of John and spouse Lisa Walker. Brandon and Sydney Walker are son and daughter of Robert and spouse Tanya Walker. Julie's spouse is Warren Wayland. Julie was mom's "fist call" medical advisor.
Marie was born in Jamaica, New York, Oct. 31, 1929. As a child, she traveled frequently to Peoria, Illinois, to visit grandparents who emigrated to the U.S. in the 1870s. On these travels, her father made sure she experienced America. She told her grandchildren of seeing Civil War soldiers in parades and meeting President Franklin Roosevelt before rolling Easter eggs on the White House lawn. Her Dad moved his family to Stockbridge, Vermont, in the late-1930s so they could grow up in the country rather than the city. Vermont is where Marie resided for the rest of her life.
She was a graduate of Whitcomb High School. She held many jobs, including her final as town clerk of Stockbridge. She was a member of Eastern Star. Mostly, Marie would have wanted to be remembered as a homemaker and wonderful cook working tirelessly to make sure her family was safe and happy.
A graveside service in her memory will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 2, in Fairview Cemetery in Bethel. Online condolences may be made at www.dayfunerals.com. Arrangements are by the Day Funeral Home in Randolph.
