Sacramento, California - Marie Catherine Walker (nee Pechacek) was born on September 19, 1923 in Ellsworth, Kansas. She passed away on April 2, 2023 in Sacramento, CA - just a few months shy of her 100th birthday. She was married to Jack Walker for 30 years, until he passed away in 1993.
Marie is predeceased by her parents, Catherine M. (nee Stehno) and Stanley B. Pechacek, her husband Jack and her son Walter David, as well as her brothers Louis S. (Adella) and Henry G. (Wanda Mae), and her sister Blanche E. Lockhart.
Marie lived in Kansas, Illinois and Ohio before moving to Sacramento, California where she excelled and thrived for more than 63 years. With an impressive career spanning 32 years becoming an accountant and project manager for the U.S. Air Force, she was able to ascend all the way to level GS-13.
Marie retired in 1984 and spent her remaining years donating her time and energy to several local organizations, as well as golfing, bowling, and traveling extensively. Her numerous excursions took her to all 50 states. She also traveled to at least 20 other countries.
Marie was the first female President of El Macero Country Club. She also served on the Board of Directors at the Stanford Home - home for homeless, disturbed teenagers. And she was the Treasurer and past President of the Stanford Home Auxiliary.
She will be remembered as a sweet, caring, intelligent woman who was adored by her friends and family, and who was highly respected and admired by the members of her community.
Like her husband Jack, her request was that she be cremated and her ashes scattered at sea.
