Marienne Johnson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 5, 2024.
Marienne Irene Johnson, age 71 of Front Royal Virginia, went to her eternal home with Christ on Thursday, May 2, 2024 after weeks of her loving husband, siblings and pastor staying by her side in Fredericksburg, Virginia.

Born in Richmond, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Joseph & Irene Fekete of Richmond, Virginia.

She was the cherished wife of Joseph Robert (Robbie) Johnson III, with whom she recently celebrated 43 memorable years of marriage.

Marienne attended the University of Richmond in the 1970's. During that time she sang in the church choir and acted as sitter for many of her nieces and nephews.

She was also a graduate in 1982 of Danville Community College studying nursing and served as the nurse at Randolph-Macon Academy in Front Royal for 10 years where she was loved by students and colleagues alike.

She also served as a Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star Chapter in Front Royal Virginia, and took care of her elderly mother for 2 years.

Most significantly, Marianne overcame her disabilities acquired at birth, and became a voice of hope for cerebral palsy patients through her writings in a blog titled "Beyond CP" at http://beyondcp.blogspot.com. Her strength & fortitude in living a productive, joy-filled & faith-filled life was a testimony to many around her.

Marienne was proud to do embroidery from her Hungarian heritage, and loved to quilt. Even with her disabled right hand, she managed to make quilts for many family members, donated some for charitable causes, and even sold her quilts on Etsy.

Marienne was the 4th of 8 children, and consequently, in addition to her husband, Robbie, she is survived by six living siblings: Dr. Judith McGhee & her husband, Les of Midlothian, VA; Margie Howard & her husband, Hiram of Columbia, SC; Joseph Akos Fekete & his former wife Mar in Mechanicsville, Va.; Michael Fekete & his wife, Annette in Washington, DC.; Edith Butler & her husband, John in Charlotte, NC.; and Kitty Hinkle & her family in Charleston, SC.; and her 24 nieces and nephews.

(Her brother, Andy Fekete, sadly passed away 5 years ago, but is survived by his partner, Robin Diamond).

Marienne was a beloved wife, sister, and aunt who will be deeply missed by those whose lives she blessed.

Marienne's funeral will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, May 25, 2024 at Calvary Episcopal Church at 132 North Royal Avenue; Front Royal, Virginia 22630.

Mr. And Mrs. Johnson were honored guests with Mr. Johnson marrying my husband and I. They came all the way from Front Royal to DC staying over night to be there for the rehearsal, dinner and wedding. She will be missed.

Marienne´s fun-loving energy and generous spirit were contagious! I was an adult before I began to understand something about the profound challenges she overcame. To me, she was a fun aunt who took us to King´s Dominion and embroidered an incredibly detailed miniature oriental carpet for my dollhouse and had a sweet fiancee named Robbie who called her "Flower". I´m honored to have known her and to have her beautiful embroidery and quilts as keepsakes of a full and loving life!

Marianne was an amazing person. She overcame obstacles that many of us would have given up on. Her determination was a true testament to her faith, positive spirit and strong fortitude. She was a true role model. My prayers go out to Robbie ands her family. She loved you all and spoke of you often. Blessings and sympathy to all of you but especially to Robbie who has lost a very special and devoted wife.

Marienne as a child overcoming physical challenges.
The 4th of 8 of us sibs with very devote parents. Thank goodness because she needed strong guidance and encouragement to deal with the obstacles that she had. This is part of the photo book of her memories - the section on her childhood. She not only survived, she thrived. You can also read these stories on the autobiographical blog she wrote at this blog: http://beyondcp.blogspot.com.

Marianne made a beautiful quilt for me. I keep it on the loveseat in my living room.
She proudly displayed a quilt she made and gifted to her niece Jenny for her wedding. The following day she told me she loved the dress I wore at the wedding, so to her surprise, I gave her the dress. I will always remember her happiness.

She was a shining light in the world. Her creativity, her faith and her perseverance in over coming the challenges that came her way, speak volumes about her strength and inner spirit. Soar with the angels, Marienne. You are loved and missed!

-My earliest memory of my sister Marienne was just how tiny she was when she 1st came home having been born prematurely, and remember just how excited Judy, Joe. and I were upon her arrival.
-While she was still in the hospital we siblings all began calling her "the new baby", which we eventually shortened to "Baby " until she entered kindergarten when Papa put his foot down and said we all must now call her by her given name, Marienne.
-It was hard..but she was always special to us..our "Baby".....
