age 56, went home to her Heavenly Father on Monday, Dec. 6, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center after an extended illness. She was born on Feb. 2, 1954 in Canton, Ohio to the late Joe Willis Block and Lillian Inez Block. She attended Martin Grade School and McKinley Senior High School. She also attended Malone College. She loved studying God's Word and giving Him the 'highest' praise! She was employed at Massillon State Hospital and Indian River Juvenile Correctional Facility for over 30 years combined where she was a Recreational Therapist. She accepted Christ at a very early age at Jerusalem Baptist Church under Rev. Harris. She was a former member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, served as a Trustee and was a Youth Leader. She later joined LOGOS Baptist Assembly where she was active with the Womens' Ministry, taught Sunday School and was known for her tambourine skills. She loved being active in and around the church. Marilyn was known to many as a mother, aunt, friend, confidant and a counselor. She was an inspiration to everyone she came into contact with. Her hobbies were many. She loved volleyball and she was known for her 'spikes' on several teams, she sang with the Urban League Choir and was one of the founding members of Carolyn & Company. She was also a member of True Life Inspirational Ensemble.
Preceded in death by her parents, Joe Willis Block and Lillian Inez Block; brothers, Joe W. Block Jr., and Carl J. Block; one sister, Nellar Frances Backey. She leaves to cherish her memory, three sisters, Frances J. Weir, Diana C. (William) Stevenson and Lillian Ann Dennis, all of Canton; two brothers, Wesley C. (Movita) Walters, Jr of Canton and Clifford E. (Florida) Block of Akron; aunt, Margaret Hogsett of Canton; uncle, Ralph Cox of Las Vegas, N.V., and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins; three god-daughters, India High of Texas; Taneisha and Kaneisha Callahan of Canton; special friends, Maria Willis Gordon, Debbie Williams and Kim Grant, all of Canton; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Caring arrangements entrusted to Rhoden Memorial Home, 729 Cherry Avenue NE, Canton, Ohio 44702 (330) 455-7944. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of the service. Interment will be in Sunset Hills Cemetery.
