Marilyn Lorraine (Mapes) Gay, 85, of Ramsey, MN went to the Lord on January 3, 2023. Throughout her life Marilyn was challenged by and enjoyed raising her 6 daughters and son, as well as actively helping to raise her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Marilyn enjoyed her many hours of volunteer work at Guardian Angels Care Center in Elk River, and at her home parish, the Church of the Epiphany. Other favorite activities included cooking for a crowd, camping, crafting, playing piano and watching her grandchildren participate in their many activities.
She is preceded in death by her loving husbands, Robert Wyatt and Thomas Gay; parents, Malcolm Mapes and Lorraine & Douglas Audette; sister, Susan Cram; son, Wayne Robert Burrell; and granddaughter, Tara Burrell.
She is survived by her children, Sherry (Terry) Ajax, Sandy (Mike) Davis, Debbie (Dale) Hawkins, Carol (John) Griggs, Linda Voss, Susie (Chuck) West; grandchildren, Jen (Aaron) O’Connor, Jackie (Matt) Austin, Jason Youngs, Nicole Burrell, Kristin (Erik) Wendlandt, Sam (Tony) Martinson, Brie Hawkins, Bobby (Katie) Griggs, Valerie Griggs, Michael, Jonathan and Matthew Voss, Megan Braaten, Aly Lewis; and great-grandchildren, Sydney & Mason O’Connor, Dehlia & Carter Austin, Nik & Eliza Wendlandt, William Martinson; sisters, Shirley (Bucky) Ofstedahl, Dorothy (Maynard) Westphal, Mary Christopherson, Linda Frey; brother, Tommy (Elvie) Doherty; and many nieces, nephews, and step-children.
Marilyn’s ever-ready helping hand and contagious smile will be remembered by all. Many thanks to the loving staff at Personal Care Senior Living in Anoka.
A Funeral service for Marilyn will be at 10:30 am on Friday, January 13, 2023 at The Church of the Epiphany, 1900 111th Ave NW, Coon Rapids, MN 55433 with visitation one hour prior from 9:30-10:30 am and a lunch to follow. There will also be a visitation Thursday, January 12th from 4:30-8:00 pm at Thurston-DeShaw Funeral Home 13817 Jay Street NW, Andover, MN 55303.
All memorials will be used to benefit other victims of Alzheimer’s.
