Marilyn Green died quietly on October 7, 2002 after years of suffering and struggling with heart and kidney disease. She won lots of battles along the way but could not climb the last big hill. She was born March 20, 1932 in Seattle, WA but spent her formative school years in Portland, Oregon, graduating from Grant High School in the city she called home. In 1954, she joined United Airlines as a Stewardess, moving to her domicile in Salt Lake City. It was here she met her husband of 44 years, Bob Green. It was love at first sight for both of them. Bob and Marilyn moved about the country for many years, living in Salt Lake City, Fresno, CA, Buffalo, NY, Danville, CA and Eugene, OR before returning to Utah in 1977. Marilyn's early years of marriage were spent raising two daughters and a son. She made many sacrifices caring for the kids as Bob's work took him away from home much of the time, sometime for weeks. She was a loving mother, never complaining and always attentive to the needs of her family. Marilyn's life was one of unselfish giving, always thinking of what she could do for her family and friends. It was never, "what can I have for me;" instead, "what can I do for someone else to bring them more joy?" Until the last four years, she enjoyed traveling, having visited Yugoslavia, Italy, England, Scotland, Alaska and a 16-day, eight-country tour of Europe. These and other trips within the U.S. were significant events for her. Marilyn prized the friendships developed over the years in the Bridge Group and the Jaguar Club. She made friends easily with her fun loving sense of humor. Marilyn and Bob were members of the United Methodist Church in every community where they lived. She usually joined the choir as she had an excellent singing voice. Marilyn is survived by her husband, Bob; daughters Tammy (Scott) Gordon of Herriman, UT and Toni Green of South Jordan, Utah; son Scott (Kristi) of Mesa, AZ; twin sister, Margaret Hahn of Friendswood, TX; brothers Gordon Scott of Portland, OR and John Scott of Bend, OR; grandchildren Zachary Gordon, Brandon Gordon, Dalton McBrien, Jordan Green and Bryon Green. Preceded in death by her parents Mirrel and Mary Scott and brother Bill Scott. A Funeral Service will be held Friday, October 11th at 2:00 p.m. at Redwood Memorial Mortuary Chapel, 6500 S. Redwood Rd., West Jordan, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment, Redwood Memorial Cemetery. To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
