Marilyn Lee Lutzker

Marilyn was a dear friend, and I still feel the loss. She supported me ably when I was at a low point in my life, and I will always be grateful for that. I remember breakfast at her house with Gene McCarthy!

Marilyn was a very close friend of my parents, Judy and Kurt Shaffert, for well over half a century. Throughout my childhood and beyond, they loved joining Marilyn's Saturday night of Thanksgiving weekend dinners, and I still prepare my turkey the way Marily taught my mother. Marilyn was very supportive of my mother as she lived with cancer and very supportive of my father after my mother died. May her memory always be a blessing.

Marilyn was our neighbor and friend for over 40 years that we lived across the alley from her in her beloved Sunnyside. Her door was always open as we visited to share our latest triumph or heartache. She always lent her ears and gave us words of wisdom. She has guided me through each stage of life by good example. As she needed to stay home as age caught up to her, new neighbors with children delighted her especially as she used her porch swing!

Marilyn and I were very close in the late 1980s, when we were both recovering from divorces. I will never forget her warmth, kindness, and humor.
Earlier, I enjoyed her wonderful Thanksgiving dinners. A great loss. My condolences to all.

Marilyn was always a very important part of my life and was a source of comfort and friendship throughout the years. I shall miss her spirit, wise advice and upbeat outlook on life. A group of ladies met frequently over the many years to lunch and open our hearts to each other. This photo was taken at one of our most recent luncheons.

I'm saddened to learn of Marilyn's passing. For nearly 20 years, I supervised from her volunteer work at New-York Historical Society, where she applied her passion for history, textiles, and politics to an array of projects. She was instrumental in helping me with the exhibition "Home Sewn: Three Centuries of Stitching History" and marshaled her fellow Empire Quilters to demonstrate their skills to exhibition goers. She researched and organized our vast collection of political buttons, cataloged new donations, and contributed to an exhibition on the topic. Her memory will live on in all the work she did to help us preserve and interpret American history.
