Marilyn Stanek Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Oct. 7 to Oct. 8, 2021.
Marilyn D. Stanek
Born: November 13, 1933 in DeKalb, IL
Died: October 7, 2021 in Libertyville, IL
Marilyn D. Stanek, 87, of McHenry, IL, passed away on Oct. 7, 2021, at Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, IL.
Marilyn was born Nov. 13, 1933 and adopted as an infant by William and Dorothy Brown of West Chicago, IL., where she had an idyllic childhood. In 1952 she married her "forever love" Joseph B. Stanek. In 1955 they moved to McHenry, where she happily lived the rest of her life.
She spent most of her life as a homemaker, also working as a school aide, and volunteering with the Salvation Army.
Marilyn was a very sweet person. She had beautiful blue eyes that sparked when she smiled, and she was loved by all.
Religion and Bible study were important aspects of her life. She was a long-time member of Zion Lutheran Church in McHenry and a charter member of Fellowship of Faith Lutheran Church in McHenry.
In addition to Bible study and other reading, she enjoyed travel. She and her husband visited much of the country during their years together. She especially enjoyed trips to the Amish country, the Smokey Mountains, and the Rocky Mountains.
Another special enjoyment of Marilyn's, was baking for family and friends. She almost always had homemade cookies, cakes, and pies on hand.
Her biggest enjoyment was her family. In her kitchen she kept a small plaque that reads, "Family is the most important thing," and she lived it.
Marilyn is survived by her husband Joseph and children Steven (Kristine), Kenneth, Paul, Cynthia (Kurt) Zwicke, and Lisa (Gary) Schultz; daughter-in-law Denise Stanek; grandchildren Katelyn Stanek, Alyssa (Charles) Jones, Ashley (Rory) Letteney, Cameren Stanek, Patrick Stanek, Grant Zwicke, Summer Zwicke, Brock Zwicke, Amanda Schultz, and Tamara (Angel) Cruz; and great-grandson Roman Cruz; sister in law; Rose Stanek and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dorothy and William Brown; and son, Joseph Patrick Stanek; as well as her sister Karen Holloway and Marilyn's in-laws.
Visitation will take place on Saturday, October 9, 2021 from 10:00am to 12:00pm at Fellowship of Faith Church in McHenry, IL. Funeral Service will begin at 12:00pm and will be followed by burial at Ringwood Cemetery in Ringwood IL.

For a number of years pre-Covid, JoEllen and I had the honor and pleasure to sit in the row just in front of Joe and Marilyn at FOF. It was always a treat to talk to them when they were still attending years back. Joe was the very outward going spouse and many times would stand and remind us that this was his wife, Marilyn. Joe always remembered my wife's name since her name was Jo and I always enjoyed reminding him that I am Dave. While doing this I would also look at Marilyn and remark about how beautiful she looked and the dresses that she wore made her glow look even more amazing. Her small physical stature always cast a larger than life presence mainly through her eyes, stunning smile and dare I say "Angelic" aura. Even with her not saying much and how Joe honored her to us, we knew she was special. Our condolences to all of the friends and family members! Our Joy knowing that she is now in a much better place with no illnesses, no physical limitations, and Home with the LORD. I give Thanks to GOD for having had a short exposure to Marilyn Stanek's earthly life! I can only imagine how she is bringing more light into Heaven.

Even though we lived miles apart during our adult life, many of our phone calls centered around memories of our childhood in West Chicago. Marilyn was my favorite cousin and she'll never be forgotten. Your 93 year old cousin, Lenor.
