Marion Koshar Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 12, 2025.
Sun City West - Marion Koshar passed away peacefully on March 16, 2025. Marion was born and raised in New York City during the Great Depression. Her parents had been the models for the 1928 Coca-Cola advertisement, "The Soda Jerk and Girl with the Bobbed Hair".

Marion always excelled in her academic studies, skipping two grade levels and graduating from Walton High School at age 16 with top honors. She even represented her school on a radio show academic bee. After high school she attended CCNY.

In 1953, she met Lou on a blind date. That began a beautiful relationship and a marriage of almost 71 years filled with a lifetime of adventures.

They settled in Old Bethpage, NY and had two children. When their children were school-aged, Marion returned to college to finish her education. She received a bachelor's degree from Queens College, Magna Cum Laude, and was honored by being invited to join Phi Beta Kappa.

Marion obtained a master's degree in Library Science from CW Post. In her librarian career she worked as a librarian in scholastic, corporate and nonprofit settings. She later headed the Technical Services department at Plainview - Old Bethpage Public Library. She greatly enjoyed her career until she retired in 1997.

During their retirement, Marion and Lou moved to their vacation home in the Poconos. They split their year with their home in Arizona, both houses on a golf course. Marion herself never played golf - she enjoyed reading, arts and music. In 2006, her longtime dream of owning a lovely Yamaha grand piano came true. Playing music filled her with joy and relaxation - she was especially moved by playing soft ballads and love songs, also Chopin.

She enjoyed reading, especially a good mystery novel. She was friendly and interested in nearly everything. She loved discussing current events, sharing world travel with her husband, making jewelry, and she also became quite a dancer! Her smile lit up the room when she was dancing.

Marion loved spending time in Arizona, with its climate, desert beauty, and the many cultural and social activities. She also appreciated the beautiful mountains and woods in the Poconos.

Marion is survived by her loving husband, Louis, her son Richard, his partner Donna, along with Richard's daughter Stephanie (husband Tony) and Marion's 2 great grandchildren Alexis and Carlos. She is also survived by her daughter Laurie (husband Philip) and Marion's grandchildren Andre and Evan. She also leaves sister-in-law Phyllis who was like a sister to her. We all miss her deeply. Donations can be made to the Autism Society of America in honor of her grandson, Andre.
