Marion Nakamura Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 22, 2024.
Marion Yasuko Nakamura, beloved wife, mother, Bachan (grandmother), great-grandmother, and friend, completed her earthly journey and returned to her heavenly home on February 18, 2024, at the age of 89. She was born on May 31, 1934, in Honolulu, HI, to Benji Ikazaki and Matsue Miyamasu and was their 3rd and last child.

After meeting her high school sweetheart and lifelong travel companion, Eichii Nakamura, at a school dance, she went on to attend and graduate from the University of Hawaii. The two then moved to the Mainland before eventually settling in the East Bay. Together, they embarked on a journey filled with love, laughter, and adventure. They shared a curiosity for culture and seeing the world and were blessed with many years of traveling with their friends and family.

Marion's life was defined by her deep love for her family and her unwavering commitment to those around her. Her greatest joy came with the birth of her son, Blake Alan Nakamura. She dedicated herself wholeheartedly to her son, actively participating in his life and nurturing his dreams. Marion's warmth and kindness also extended beyond her immediate family, as she formed deep and lasting friendships throughout her life.

Marion was a devout member of the San Lorenzo Japanese Christian Church, where she found solace and community in her faith. Her unwavering belief in God's grace and love guided her throughout her life's journey.

Marion will be remembered for her vibrant spirit, infectious laughter, and boundless generosity. She had a zest for life and a genuine interest in those around her, making every gathering brighter with her presence.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 65 years, Eichii Nakamura, her beloved son, Blake Alan Nakamura, her cherished granddaughter, Karley (JR), her adored great-granddaughter, Ruby Blake, along with a host of extended family and friends.

A celebration of Marion's life will be held on March 30, 2024, at the San Lorenzo Japanese Christian Church. Aloha dress is encouraged to honor Marion's birthplace. Marion was a fighter with a remarkable sense of resilience in how she overcame cancer multiple times. In addition, she had a profound love for her family dogs, whom she enjoyed spoiling with lots of dinner scraps. To honor Marion's memory and the causes close to her heart, the family kindly requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Cancer Research Institute, an institution Marion supported as a longtime donor, or to Best Friends Animal Society, highlighting her deep affection for animals.

The first time I met Marion (at the college graduation weekend many years ago for my son, who is her great-nephew), she taught me two things. How to make musabi balls and how to fold plastic grocery bags into a tight bundle and tie them up with the handles. I use that folding trick to this day and think of her every time I do. Marion treated me like direct family! I will miss her infectious laugh and contagious joy! She leaves a big hole!
