I met Marion by chance one day. Her little dog ran out of the gate and I was able to stop him before he got too far. She thanked me, and invited my skinny teenage self in to have a slice of cake. We got talking and made fast friends. I visited her often. Her husband had just passed away and she liked that my friend and I would come to play with her dog and chat awhile.
That December, she invited me to "Chuck and Marion“s" for breakfast and a large slice of German chocolate cake on my birthday. It was one of the few happy birthdays I had as a kid.
She left a hole in my life when she moved to Texas, and I never forgot her kindness or friendship.
