Maritza Hives

BIRMINGHAM | Maritza Hives, age 58, of Birmingham, died November 17, 2015, at home. Services will be 11:30 a.m. Monday, November 23, 2015, at Sunset Funeral Home with Pastor Charles officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Sunset Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Family hour will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. with visitation one hour prior to services.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Gladys de Munoz and father, Reinaldo Munoz.
Survivors include her daughters, Nadia Hives and Maisha Hives; sons, Willie Munoz and Jahir Munoz; sisters, Xiomara Munoz, Isabel Sokolowski and Mayra Munoz; brothers, Ivan Munoz, Roberto Munoz and Miguel Munoz; grandparents, Melida Miranda, Oscar Montero, Tomasa Vasquez and Angel Rivas; and grandchildren, Taniya Burden, Kordaious Stewart, Kordel Stewart, Tavaris Simon and Tayshon Simon.
Maritza Hives was a wonderful woman of God. She was a professor at Miles College where she began many programs and outreach groups. Her profession meant everything to her. Her Panamanian heritage was a large part of her life. She was an active member of her church and very beloved amongst all. She was a wonderful mother, daughter, sister and grandmother. She will forever be missed.
Pallbearers will be Willie Munoz and Jahir Munoz.
Honorary pallbearers are Daystar Family Church and Miles College faculty, staff and student body.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the American Cancer Society.
