Everything Margie did was infused with energy. She so strongly supported Words Alive, that even after she'd moved away from San Diego, she returned to the galas whenever she could and had a smile for everyone! You've always been an inspiration, Margie! Fondly, Valentina

Margie was a dear friend. I will miss her always. We shared 2 classrooms for several years. We enjoyed the children so much. I was on the board when she was president and she was so energetic and enthusiastic about her role in Words Alive.

Margie was a friend, a nonprofit partner, and a mentor. Her passion for children, especially her own, shined through everything she did and the world is a happier and better educated place for it.

I remember fondly the brief time Margie, Valerie, Ben and Rebecca stayed with us when they moved to Chapel Hill. Margie immediately took an interest in my family and generously cooked delicious dinners and often took my youngest daughter, Lian, out for walks in the stroller. We had interesting discussions on education, travels, raising children and music. I felt nurtured and inspired by Margie´s warm and wise presence. What an extraordinary woman!

I will always remember the wonderful meals that Margie cooked, her baking, and the adorable sweater and hat that she knitted for Aaron when he was born. Margie was always the perfect hostess and I still have 2 dozen wine glasses from a dinner party she threw for 60 people! Here is a picture with me and Aunt Francis.

My first memory of Margie was my first first Words Alive board meeting. She was a force of nature. She was a GSD type of person. If you don't know that acronym... 'Get Stuff Done'... By the end of our second board meeting she came up to me and and insisted she wanted me to consider being the future board chair. (as if I had any say). Margie got 'her way' and that was the beginning a wonderful friendship. Being the first 'Gentile' woman on the board, she guided me along. She taught me Yiddish, and I referred to her as 'My Jewish Mom'. We had plenty of laughs, plenty of 'swears' and our share of tough times. She could be tough, she could be direct, but she deeply cared and was committed to serving others. She loved her family and was very proud of her daughters and grandkids. I will cherish my 'Margie Knitted Gifts', and never see a small sweet and not think of her. I will miss you my friend. You will be forever in my heart. xo Kamie
